Feeding therapy highlight! 🌟 Some kids need their liquids thickened because thin liquids can be difficult to swallow safely. 🥤❄️

What happens when you turn a thickened liquid into a popsicle? One of our feeding therapists mixed thickener with water to their client’s recommended consistency, added a little food coloring for visual interest, and froze it in a popsicle mold.

The result? A completely frozen popsicle that, as it melted, stayed thick instead of turning into a thin liquid!

This gave her client an opportunity to:
👅 Explore a food he hadn’t previously had access to
❄️ Experience strong cold sensory input
👄 Practice licking and oral exploration outside of the mouth
🧠 Get sensory feedback from the temperature and texture

For kids who need thickened liquids, cold drinks can be tricky because melting ice can dilute the liquid and change its consistency.

*Always follow the individualized liquid consistency recommendations provided by your child’s medical/feeding team

Feeding therapy is about helping kids develop the skills, confidence, and comfort needed to participate in mealtimes successfully! 🍌🫐🍓

During this session, we explored a variety of fruits while practicing food preparation, cutting, handling, and creating positive sensory interactions with foods. These experiences help children build comfort and familiarity with different textures, smells, tastes, and appearances while encouraging greater food flexibility and confidence around mealtimes 🍽️
