🦶 September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month

Did you know poor circulation doesn’t just occur in the neck or heart? It occurs in the feet too.

Your body is a vascular tree, with blood flow going to your neck, heart, arms, and legs. A problem in one area makes it more likely that you may have problems with blood flow in your feet, increasing the risk for non-healing wounds, infection, and amputation. Poor circulation can also make trimming your nails risky.

If you experience:

✅ Cool feet
✅ Tingling or pain in your legs at night
✅ The need to hang your feet off the edge of the bed for relief
✅ Leg pain or cramping that makes you stop walking after one block

Your circulation needs to be checked.

At Valley Foot Care, Inc., our board-certified podiatrists check the pulses in your feet as part of a comprehensive examination. There are four important pulses in your feet—two in each foot—that can help evaluate how well blood is circulating to your lower legs and feet.

Circulation concerns are especially important for patients with:

✅ Diabetes
✅ Peripheral vascular disease
✅ Neuropathy
✅ Heart disease, especially after age 60
✅ Foot wounds or sores that are slow to heal
✅ Leg pain or cramping after walking

Don’t wait for a small problem to become a serious one. Early evaluation can help identify circulation concerns and determine whether additional vascular testing or care may be needed.

🦶 Did you know your feet have pulses too?

That’s right—there are four important pulses in your feet, two in each foot, that can help us evaluate how well blood is circulating to your lower legs and feet.

At Valley Foot Care, Inc., checking these pulses is an important part of the examination for patients with:

✅ Diabetes
✅ Peripheral vascular disease
✅ Neuropathy
✅ Heart disease, especially after age 60
✅ Foot wounds or sores that are slow to heal
✅ Leg pain or cramping after walking just one or two blocks

These symptoms may be warning signs of peripheral artery disease (PAD). Poor circulation can delay wound healing and increase the risk of infection and serious foot complications—especially when diabetes or neuropathy is also present.

Don’t wait for a small problem to become a serious one. A comprehensive foot examination can help identify circulation concerns and determine whether additional vascular testing or care may be needed.

📅 AUGUST 21 — NATIONAL SENIOR CITIZENS DAY

👣 Staying mobile is one of the keys to maintaining independence and quality of life as we age—and healthy feet help make every step possible.

At Valley Foot Care, Inc., seniors are a treasured part of our practice and among our most loyal patients. For nearly 30 years, we have enjoyed helping older adults remain active, comfortable, and safely on their feet.

Podiatrists play an important role in senior mobility by providing care for:

✅ Bunions, hammertoes, corns, and calluses
✅ Painful or difficult-to-trim toenails
✅ Gait, balance, and walking concerns
✅ Custom arch supports for common foot conditions
✅ Diabetic foot examinations and peripheral neuropathy
✅ Peripheral vascular disease and circulation concerns
✅ Non-healing wounds that can threaten mobility and independence
✅ Routine preventive foot care for qualifying patients

Foot pain, wounds, balance problems, or difficulty walking should never be dismissed as “just part of getting older.” Early evaluation and treatment may help seniors remain active, independent, and engaged in the activities they love.

Today, we celebrate our senior patients and thank them for trusting us with their foot health year after year. It is a privilege to care for you every day!

👣💙 HAPPY NATIONAL “I LOVE MY FEET” DAY! 💙👣

Our feet carry us through life every single day—yet they are often the most overlooked part of our health… until something goes seriously wrong.

Too many people wait until pain, wounds, or difficulty walking develops before seeking care. But foot problems are often easier to treat when caught early.

This is your reminder to show your feet some love today—and every day:

🦶 Don’t ignore foot or ankle pain
🦶 Don’t wait for wounds or infections to appear
🦶 Don’t assume numbness or tingling is “normal”
🦶 Don’t overlook changes in skin color, temperature, or circulation

Another major way feet are overlooked is through missed preventive care:

✔️ Many people with diabetes have NEVER had a proper diabetic foot exam
✔️ Annual foot exams are often skipped entirely
✔️ Patients with peripheral vascular disease (PVD)—reduced blood flow—may not realize how critical routine foot checks are to prevent serious complications

Early evaluation can prevent infections, ulcers, and even limb-threatening conditions.

💙 Take a moment today to appreciate your feet—and make sure they’re healthy for the long run.

If it’s been a while since your last foot exam, now is the perfect time to schedule one.

🍂⚽ FALL SPORTS ARE HERE—IS YOUR CHILD READY TO PLAY PAIN-FREE?

Whether your child plays soccer, football, volleyball, or another fall sport, healthy feet and ankles are essential for safe participation.

A child who is limping after athletic activity—regardless of the suspected cause—should be evaluated by a podiatrist. Limping is not normal and may signal an injury or condition requiring treatment.

Before or during the season, check your child’s feet for:

🦶 Heel pain
🦶 Ingrown toenails
🦶 Plantar warts
🦶 Foot or ankle pain
🦶 Swelling, redness, or tenderness
🦶 Changes in walking or running

If you are uncertain, seek professional podiatric care. Early evaluation can help prevent a minor concern from becoming a season-ending problem.

Valley Foot Care, Inc. welcomes new patients and treats children of all ages.

🦶 When a child starts limping, their body is telling you something—don’t ignore it.

Children may not always explain their pain clearly. They may avoid sports, walk on their toes, favor one foot, or complain that their heel hurts after running and playing. Persistent heel pain and limping are not normal and should be medically evaluated.

One common cause is Sever’s disease, also known as calcaneal apophysitis. It occurs when repeated stress irritates the developing growth plate at the back of the heel—often during a growth spurt or active sports season.

Watch for:

• Heel pain during or after activity
• Limping or walking differently
• Tenderness at the back or bottom of the heel
• Walking on tiptoes to avoid pressure
• Avoiding sports or play
• Pain that returns repeatedly

A proper podiatric examination can determine whether the pain involves the growth plate or another condition. Treatment may include activity modification, stretching, supportive shoes, heel cushions, orthotics, or other care tailored to your child.

Don’t tell your child to simply “walk it off.” Early evaluation can reduce pain, protect mobility, and help them return safely to the activities they love.
