Not every family can be on the boat.

If you are far away, or the travel would be too much, you may ship the ashes or leave them with us in St. Petersburg. I take them out myself. Roses go into the water. You receive a GPS certificate and photographs of the morning. Video if you want it.

It is still a burial at sea. It is still done with care. You do not have to stand on the deck for it to be real.

A family-attended scattering from St. Petersburg is a quiet morning on the water.

We leave Maximo Marina on a private boat, just your people. About three miles offshore we stop. You may scatter the ashes yourself, or I will. Fresh rose petals go with them. I write the GPS on a certificate so you can find the place again.

There is time for a prayer, a song, or nothing at all. The Gulf does not hurry.

We opened a free National Ash Scattering Registry.
Search a loved one’s name. See the GPS on a map. Record a memorial from any coast — whether the ceremony was with Ocean Ashes or with someone else.
Families ask me the same question more than any other: “How do I find the place again?” After a scattering you leave with a certificate and a set of coordinates. Years later a sister wants to look it up. A grandchild wants to know which way to face. Until now there was no public place in the United States to search a sea scattering by name.
Each pin is a person: a name, the years of a life, the date the ashes went into the water, and the GPS from the certificate. Search is open to everyone. No account. No fee.
If you have a certificate, add them. We review every request and place the pin by hand.
The ocean is the memorial. The registry is how you find your way back.
