When a child is struggling, parents feel it deeply.

The nervous system is built for connection, and when that connection becomes difficult, it can impact the entire family. Supporting parents is an important part of supporting the child.

Because caregivers need care too.

Five signs your nervous system may be running on empty this summer:

Parents spend a lot of time noticing what their children need. This is a reminder to notice what may be happening within you.

You struggle to relax, even when nothing is immediately wrong.

You are present, but you do not feel fully connected to the moment.

Small stressors bring up bigger reactions than you expected.

Sleep does not leave you feeling restored.

Rest feels uncomfortable, unproductive, or undeserved.

These are not signs that you are failing. They may be signs that your nervous system has been working hard for a long time.

Anna Leis is a Wellness Practitioner at Wellness Warrior Group. Her body-based work supports parents and adults who are experiencing the physical and emotional effects of prolonged stress and caregiving.

Your needs matter too.

Parents often give everything they have to help their child.

But when your nervous system is overwhelmed, it becomes harder to provide the grounded presence children need to feel safe and regulated. Children sense emotional states quickly, especially those who have experienced trauma.

Supporting your own regulation is part of supporting your child.

By mid-summer, many parents are carrying more than anyone can see.

The tension that never fully leaves.

Sleep that doesn’t feel restorative.

The feeling of being physically present but somehow disconnected.

These experiences are not always something you can think your way out of.

They may be signs that your nervous system has spent too long anticipating needs, managing stress, and holding everything together.

Anna Leis is a Wellness Practitioner at Wellness Warrior Group. She provides body-based support for adults who feel that stress is showing up physically, even when they cannot fully explain why.

You do not need to understand the entire pattern before receiving support.

Has your child suddenly become quieter, withdrawn, or less joyful?

Sometimes early signs of trauma show up as lost smiles, new fears, or changes in play. Bethany shares why starting conversations early, alongside parents and caregivers, makes healing possible before struggles grow deeper.

If you’ve noticed changes in your child, it may be time to reach out.

Therapy isn't just for crisis.

Susie Brookman, MA, NCC, LPC, encourages a different way of thinking about therapy. Instead of waiting until you're overwhelmed, therapy can be a space for growth, clarity, and moving forward.

At Wellness Warrior Group, EMDR Intensives help clients process what's been holding them back in a focused, supportive environment. You don't need to be at a breaking point, and you don't need to have everything figured out before you begin.

Sometimes the next step is simply giving yourself permission to start.

Achievement should not cost your peace.

Christina Sauers, MA, MS, NCC, LPC, explains that healing does not erase your drive. It softens the pressure behind it. Through EMDR Intensives, high performers can begin to rest, connect, and still excel without constantly feeling the need to prove themselves.
