This week Arbor Health turns seven, and we’ve spent a lot of it thinking about you.

You trusted us with your health, and so many of you trusted us with your kids. You answered 400 questions, starting with the day you were born. You told us the hard stuff, and you stuck with a plan that kept changing as your body did.

Two of you put it better than we could:

“Arbor Health really did help me get back into feeling like my whole self, which is what I came to them seeking in the first place.”
Jordan, patient, Rochester, NY

“We aren’t just trying to survive day to day anymore. We can actually leave the house. We can even take trips.”
Shari, mother of a daughter with PANS/PANDAS, Rochester, NY

None of it happens without our team. They answer your messages, make the check-in calls, and know your story so you never have to start over. This week we’re all sitting down together for a special anniversary lunch.

We’d love to bring your words to the table. Leave a note for the team in the comments, or send us a message if you’d rather keep it private, and we’ll read them out loud at lunch. 💚

A child who was fine in September and can’t stop washing her hands by October. An adult with no psychiatric history whose panic attacks start at 50.

Sometimes the driver is an infection, and it’s easy to miss when you aren’t looking for it.

On November 11, our co-founder Dr Zendi Moldenhauer is presenting Tickborne Infections Presenting as Psychiatric Conditions at the Redefining the Future of Nursing Summit with Institute for Functional Nursing. It’s a free three-day virtual event for nurses, NPs, and clinicians, with 15 speakers.

You probably know a parent whose child changed almost overnight.

Maybe it came after strep throat or a bad flu. A happy kid suddenly had rituals, rages, or tics. Maybe they stopped eating, or couldn't let go of Mom's hand at the bus stop. That parent has likely been told it's anxiety, or a phase.

Today, October 9, is PANS/PANDAS Awareness Day. PANS and PANDAS happen when the immune system, often after an infection, mistakenly targets the brain. The inflammation shows up as sudden changes in mood, behavior, and thinking.

The more people who know the signs, the sooner a family finds answers. That's the whole point of today. Tonight, landmarks around the world light up green.

We wrote a free guide for parents who know something changed and haven't found anyone willing to look for why. It covers the signs, what a full workup looks for, and a short self-check a parent can do at the kitchen table.

If a name came to mind, send this to them. đź’š

You remember the week your child changed.

Maybe it followed a sore throat. Maybe there was nothing you could point to at all. One day there were new rituals, or rages that came out of nowhere, or a kid who stopped eating, and the answer you kept hearing was anxiety.

On The Functional Nurse Podcast, our co-founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Zendi Moldenhauer, PhD, PNP, NPP, explained why that answer can leave something out. "Our brain is connected to the rest of our body. What's going on in the body affects the brain, and vice versa."

You'll hear her and Dr. Brigitte Sager talk through PANS and PANDAS, inflammation in the brain, and how infections, mold, gut health, and nutrition can shape the way a child thinks and feels. Zendi also covers the basics a family can start on at home, like sleep, food, movement, and screens.

It was recorded for nurses, but you don't need a medical degree to follow it.

Your child changed almost overnight.

The anxiety arrived suddenly. Or the rituals did: checking, counting, washing. Maybe the eating narrowed to four foods. Maybe the handwriting fell apart, or a nine-year-old started wetting the bed again.

You were told it was a phase. Anxiety. Stress at school. Something they'd grow out of.

Dr. Zendi Moldenhauer was asked by the RBJ what she's watching most closely in medicine right now. Her answer was the rise of neuroimmune-informed medicine — the growing recognition that psychiatric symptoms in children can have immune-driven and biological origins rather than purely psychological ones.

Conditions that sat at the margins of clinical conversation for years are moving toward the mainstream. PANS and PANDAS. Neurologic Lyme disease. Gut-brain inflammation.

Her words: "For the families I have sat with who were told nothing is wrong."

That is the part we want to sit with. Not that every child with anxiety has an underlying infection, most do not. But that a sudden, dramatic change in a child's behavior is a clinical finding, and it deserves a workup rather than a shrug.

If your child's symptoms appeared abruptly, followed an illness, or have not responded to standard treatment, there may be more to investigate.

Some news we're a little emotional about. 🌿

The Rochester Business Journal has named BOTH of our co-founders to the 2026 Power List for Healthcare — Amber Ratcliffe, our Co-Founder & CEO and Dr. Zendi Moldenhauer, our Co-Founder & Chief Medical Officer.

Here's the part that matters to us.

Arbor Health didn't start in a boardroom. Seven years ago, Amber reached out to Dr. Zendi as a mother, trying to get real answers about her kids' health. She found them — and then the two of them looked at how exhausting that search had been and thought: other families shouldn't have to fight this hard.

Asked what keeps her hopeful about the future of healthcare, Zendi's answer was you. The families who arrive worn out after years of being told nothing is wrong, who start to heal, and who then go tell other families. She described that ripple effect as the thing that gives her the most optimism.

We'd agree. đź’š
