We have been quiet too long about the case that is spiking every new mother's anxiety all across the U.S.

The heart-wrenching tragedy surrounding the Lindsay Clancy case opened up a national conversation that we cannot afford to turn away from.

Beyond the headlines and the constant updates of a very public trial, it laid bare a critical truth: severe perinatal mental health conditions—including postpartum psychosis (PPP) and severe postpartum depression—are medical emergencies that require immediate, specialized, and accessible support.

🆘We cannot simply tell mothers to "ask for help" if the infrastructure to support them isn't there when they do.

🧐What real postpartum support needs to look like:

📄Screening & Education: Routine, non-stigmatizing mental health screenings during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum year.

🚨Crisis Resources: Immediate access to specialized maternal mental health crisis care, not just general emergency rooms.

🧾Paid Family Leave & Physical Care: Structural support that allows birth givers time to physically and emotionally heal without financial ruin. This needs to come from our policy makers.

🫂Community & Peer Support: Breaking the isolation by connecting parents with specialized peer support groups.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder, please know you are not alone and help is available:

In an immediate emergency, 911 is always the best option.

☎️💬: 988 the National Su***de Prevention Hotline. 24/7/365.

☎️: 1-800-944-4PPD the Postpartum Support International toll-free helpline.

📞 Maternal Mental Health Hotline: Call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262) for free, confidential, 24/7 support in English and Spanish.

🌐 National Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741.

if you aren't in crisis, but need support during the perinatal period 👇

Everyone’s heard of .
It’s that anxious feeling you get the day before the start of a new work or school week.
Now let’s consider that same feeling but it hits in the final week/weeks of summer and the anticipation of having a productive fall semester or season at work or school.
Good news is, we’ve all been there.
This feeling is totally normal and more good news... you don’t have to feel this way.
We have some ideas to lessen your and get ready for September.
🍂 As summer winds down during the next week, start to pause and think about this list of ideas:
🍂 Set intentions.
Setting intentions is a way to express what you want to accomplish through your actions and how you want to experience life. It's a commitment to the journey and can help you create a mental framework that guides your thoughts.
🍂 Plan Ahead.
Planning ahead can help you achieve your goals, save time and resources, and reduce stress.
🍂 Have realistic expectations.
Realistic expectations are goals or targets that are sensible and achievable. They can help people improve their lives and make the most of them. They can help to reduce disappointment and create better coping strategies.
🍂 Self Care.
The main benefits of investing in self-care include reduced stress and anxiety, lower risk of illness or disease, and increased satisfaction in daily life. Even 5-15 mins per day can have remarkable effects.
🍂 Talk To Your Support System.
Talking to a support system can help you manage challenges, make decisions, and cope with difficult situations. It can also help you feel less isolated and lonely, which can lead to better mental and physical health. This includes family, friends, or your therapist.
🍂 Have a Sleep Hygiene Routine.

Meet Sara Garnot, LCSW!

♀️If you're struggling with infertility, you may be carrying a grief that others can't always see. The uncertainty, loss, and emotional toll of this journey can leave you feeling overwhelmed, isolated, and exhausted. You don't have to navigate it alone.

♀️I specialize in supporting individuals experiencing infertility, offering a warm, compassionate space to process the complex emotions that can arise throughout fertility treatments, pregnancy loss, difficult decisions, and life in the midst of uncertainty. Together, we'll work to help you feel more grounded, resilient, and connected to what matters most.

🫂While infertility is a specialty, I also work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, relationship challenges, and burnout.

🫂 I have a particular passion for supporting fellow mental health professionals, providing a space where therapists and other helping professionals can care for themselves while caring for others.

🫂My approach is collaborative and individualized. I integrate evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, and DBT, tailoring treatment to your unique needs and goals. Reaching out for support can feel like a big step. I'm here to help you move toward healing with compassion and practical tools for lasting change.

⏳ Sara currently has a wait-list for new clients. She is currently supervising Eileen Cuneo, MHC-LP and Erin Golestani, LMSW

Voiceover: "They hold your deepest secrets. They guide you toward healing..."

Record scratch

"...But who helps them unjam the office printer?" 🖨️😭

If Netflix made a docuseries on therapists, it wouldn't be all dramatic breakthroughs and moody lighting.

It would just be 10 episodes of us desperately trying to finish our progress notes, chugging lukewarm coffee, and aggressively validating each other in the breakroom.

Would you binge-watch this? 📺

Meet Samantha Demmer, MHC-I!

💐Samantha "Sam" is a Master’s-level Mental Health Counseling Intern from Capella University. She brings a calm, grounded presence shaped by years of supporting children and families in caregiving roles, where she developed a deep appreciation for empathy, patience, and the importance of feeling truly understood.

💐Sam is passionate about creating a warm, collaborative space where clients can explore their experiences with safety and authenticity. She takes an integrative, person‐centered approach that draws from mindfulness, strengths‐based practices, and humanistic principles.

💐Sam believes in each individual’s innate capacity for growth and resilience, and she works alongside clients to help them access their inner strengths and move toward meaningful change. She is especially interested in working with children, adolescents, and adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, relationship challenges, and emotional overwhelm. She is excited and committed to providing compassionate care to each client she serves.

Sam writes on her Psychology Today profile:
"I understand how heavy life can feel, no matter what you're going through. So many people come to therapy when they’re feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed by relationships, or unsure about their next step. You don’t need a crisis to deserve support.

I offer a calm, grounded space where you can talk openly without pressure or judgment. I’m especially connected to supporting people navigating life changes, anxiety, relationship struggles, or emotional overwhelm. As a clinical trainee, I work closely with my supervisor to ensure your care is thoughtful and aligned with your needs."

Does Sam seem like a good fit for you ?
She is currently being supervised by Morgen Rappa, LCSW
Sam offers a FREE 15 min consultation and low sliding scale rate to all new clients.

“It is a privilege to have ADHD well.” — Michelle Frank, PsyD 🧠✨

🗂️Managing ADHD isn't just about personal strategy—it's deeply tied to access. Access to mental health care, an early diagnosis, supportive environments, and educational resources.

🧠While managing ADHD is always hard work, having the resources to do so effectively is a privilege that systemic inequality, racism, healthcare gaps, and cultural stigmas often strip away from the BIPOC community.

👫Consider two children walking into a classroom with hyperactive or impulsive traits:
🎨A young white boy is often seen as creative, energetic, and spirited.
⚠️A young Black boy with the exact same traits is far more likely to be labeled as a “behavioral issue.”
And for BIPOC girls, ADHD is frequently masked behind societal expectations, parentification, and high performance—making diagnosis and support even harder to reach.

BIPOC Mental Health Awareness Month may be wrapping up, but advocacy doesn't end here. It’s time to acknowledge these gaps, break down the stigmas, and push for equal access so everyone can be supported and celebrate their strengths.

💭 How do you practice advocacy and awareness for neurodiversity in your community? Let us know in the comments.
