As therapists, people often ask us about relationship "red flags." But sometimes, a red flag isn't just a warning sign—it’s a red card. 🟥
In soccer, a red card means an immediate ejection from the game. In relationships, these are non-negotiable boundaries where the healthiest next step is to protect your well-being and step away.
While red flags say "proceed with extreme caution and look deeper," red cards say "the game is over."
Here are four relationship "red cards" that warrant an immediate pause or exit:

🟥 1. The "Reality Rewrite" (Severe Gaslighting): Not just a disagreement on facts, but a persistent, intentional effort to make you doubt your own sanity, memory, and perception of reality so they can escape accountability.

🟥 2. Volatile Explosions: Disagreements are normal. Feeling physically unsafe, being cornered, or watching someone destroy property during an argument is not. True safety means knowing your partner can manage their anger without putting you in fear.

🟥 3. Isolation Tactics: Anyone who systematically chips away at your support network—subtly convincing you to stop seeing friends, criticizing your family, or making you feel guilty for having a life outside the relationship—is trying to control you.

🟥 4. The Conditional Apology: "I’m sorry, but you made me do it." A total refusal to accept personal responsibility, especially when paired with a pattern of shifting the blame entirely onto you, means the behavior is highly likely to repeat.

Recognizing a red card doesn't mean you failed; it means you chose yourself. 🤍

Which of these resonates most with you? Let's talk in the comments.

Mental health doesn't care about "toughing it out."

This Men’s Mental Health Month, it’s time to look closely at the data. The numbers show a clear gap between how many men are hurting and how many are getting support:

1 in 5: The number of men in the U.S. who experience a mental health condition in any given year (NIMH).

4x Higher: Men die by su***de at nearly four times the rate of women, accounting for roughly 80% of all su***de deaths (CDC).

The Treatment Gap: Only 41.6% of men with mental illness receive professional treatment, compared to nearly 57% of women (NAMI).

The Isolation Factor: Around 15% of men report having no close friendships, a number that has steadily grown and directly impacts emotional wellness.

Staying silent isn't working. Asking for help isn't a weakness—it’s the ultimate sign of strength and taking control of your life.

If you or a man you love is struggling, reach out. You don't have to carry the weight alone. 🧠🌱

The World Cup matches are heating up, and things are getting slightly competitive around the office! ⚽🏆

We polled the team to see which country they are backing this summer, and the results are officially in.

Turns out, our therapeutic styles aren't the only things that are diverse around here! Here is who we are cheering for:

Team 🇺🇸 (Believes in the power of teamwork and local pride! Gotta rep Tyler Adams, a Dutchess County native!!)

Team 🇲🇽 (Here for the flair, the energy, and the passion! Okay so we get it, Ochoa isn't going to play but he's still a fan fave.)

Team 🇦🇷 (Rooting for the reigning champs! And big Messi fans for his final world cup.)

Team 🇫🇷 (Those who've been watching Mbappe and those beautiful goals!)

And our cute little therapy pooches who are just so happy to be here 🐶🐾

No matter who takes home the trophy, we promise to keep the office a neutral zone for all your sessions. 😉 As much as possible 😜

Drop a comment below: Who is your team this year? 👇👇

🏳️‍🌈Happy Pride Month Folx! Pride 2026!
What is Pride Month?
🏳️‍🌈From the Library of Congress: “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Q***r (LGBTQ) Pride Month is currently celebrated each year in the month of June to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan.
🏳️‍🌈The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. In the United States the last Sunday in June was initially celebrated as "Gay Pride Day," but the actual day was flexible.
🏳️‍🌈 In major cities across the nation the "day" soon grew to encompass a month-long series of events. Today, celebrations include pride parades, picnics, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, and LGBTQ Pride Month events attract millions of participants around the world.
🏳️‍🌈The purpose of the commemorative month is to recognize the impact that le***an, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals have had on history locally, nationally, and internationally.

💐Happy Mother’s Day to the women who carry so much, often silently. In the world of mental wellness, we recognize that 'mothering' is not just a role, but a continuous act of emotional regulation, empathy, and sacrifice.
💐To the mothers doing the brave work of raising the next generation with emotional awareness: we see you. Whether you are healing from your own past or building a new foundation of love and safety, your dedication to your family’s mental health is a lasting legacy. Today, we celebrate your resilience, your patience, and the quiet power of your presence.
💐 Today, we honor the strength it takes to show up for others, while gently reminding you that your own heart needs tending, too. May you find a moment of peace today that is just for you
💐Mother’s Day can hold a spectrum of emotions—joy, longing, gratitude, and even grief.
💐Today, our practice honors every version of motherhood: the biological mothers, the adoptive parents, the grieving hearts, and those who provide maternal warmth in unconventional ways. To anyone who has ever played the role of a 'safe harbor' for another soul: thank you for your immense contribution to our collective healing.

05/09/2026

Mother’s Day often arrives with a heavy coat of pink paint, but for many, the reality is far more layered. It’s okay if tomorrow feels less like a celebration and more like a day to navigate.

Whether you are grieving a relationship, processing a difficult upbringing, or finding your own path through the complexities of parenting, your feelings are valid. You don't have to force a smile or subscribe to a narrative that doesn't fit your life.

Finding Your Space Tomorrow

Acknowledge the Duality: It is possible to feel love and resentment, or gratitude and grief, at the same exact time. One doesn't cancel out the other.

Set Digital Boundaries: If scrolling through "perfect" tributes feels draining, give yourself permission to stay off social media for the day.

Redefine the Day: If the traditional meaning doesn't serve you, focus on self-care or honoring the "chosen family" who has supported your growth.

"You aren't required to perform joy for a holiday that doesn't reflect your lived experience."

A Gentle Reminder

To the person struggling with the "shoulds," the person mothering themselves, and the person holding space for what’s missing: You are seen. There is no right or wrong way to get through today. Be kind to yourself.
