🐾 Don't Forget About Anaplasmosis: The Other Tick-Borne Threat 🐾
When we talk about tick-borne diseases, Lyme tends to steal the spotlight — but there's another infection your dog is just as likely to encounter right here in the Hudson Valley: Anaplasmosis.
In fact, the same black-legged ticks that carry Lyme often carry Anaplasma too — meaning a single tick bite can transmit BOTH diseases at once. With ticks active in our region nearly year-round, every dog owner needs to know about this often-overlooked threat.

🐾✨ Is Your Cat Hiding Achy Joints? Let's Talk Feline Arthritis! ✨🐾
Here's a fact that surprises a lot of cat parents: arthritis affects an estimated 70% to 90% of cats over 12 years old, and about 60% of cats over age 6 show signs. Our kitties are SO good at masking discomfort that we often miss it — but the wonderful news? Once we know what to watch for, we can help them feel like playful kittens again!

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion have shaped the freedoms we enjoy today.

We also remember all who have served alongside them — including the loyal animals who stood by their side. From military working dogs who protected troops on the front lines, to horses who carried soldiers through battle, to the messenger pigeons who delivered life-saving information, animals have served with bravery and devotion right alongside our service members.

To the families who carry the weight of that loss — we stand with you, today and every day.

Between the barbecues and gatherings this weekend, let's take a moment to reflect on what this day truly means to us.

Today we're celebrating these incredible shelled companions! Thinking about welcoming an aquatic turtle into your home, or already share your space with one? Here are some quick tips to keep your little swimmer happy and healthy:
💧 Bigger is better with tanks. A common rule is 10 gallons of water per inch of shell length. That cute hatchling will grow—plan for their adult size from day one.
☀️ UVB lighting is non-negotiable. Turtles need UVB rays to process calcium and prevent shell disease. Replace bulbs every 6-12 months, even if they still light up.
🌡️ Two zones, two temps. Water around 75-78°F and a basking spot of 88-95°F. They need to fully dry off to stay healthy.
🥬 Variety on the menu. A mix of leafy greens, protein (like commercial turtle pellets), and the occasional treat keeps them thriving. Younger turtles need more protein; adults need more veggies.
🧽 Filtration is your best friend. Turtles are messy! Get a filter rated for 2-3x your tank size and do partial water changes weekly.
⏳ They're a long-term commitment. Many aquatic turtles live 20-40+ years. Adopting one is a serious promise.
Drop a photo of your shelled friend in the comments—we'd love to meet them! 🐢💚
