You have a hairdresser/barber. You have a mechanic. Your pet has a groomer.
Do you have a primary care provider?
Having health insurance does not guarantee access, real access to primary care. There are so many reasons why the traditional model of medicine may not work for you:
1. Finding a provider that is accepting patients
2. Having to wait weeks or months for an appointment (early intervention for most health concerns can prevent complications)
3. Having to utilize walk in clinics for urgent care if your sick (usually copays or deductibles will leave you with out-of-pocket expenses) and the provider, however competent to treat your ailment, does not know you personally
Having a primary care provider means that person knows your health history, your family health history, your labs and what normal looks like for you.
4. Direct primary care clinics typically offer late evening appointments once or twice a week; ours for instance, offers 3 days a week that we see patients until 8pm, no need to reschedule your workday or other things that you may need to get done. Not to mention telehealth appointments and texting directly with your provider.
Direct primary care is different in ways that matter, smaller patient panels so you are likely to have same or next day access to care. You build a patient provider relationship that is hard to do in traditional primary care models. Point of care testing, EKG, minor procedures, annual physicals, women’s wellness exams, all included. Low-cost lab work is available to patients that do not have coverage and over 65 in stock medications if needed at 90% below retail prices. And you can still utilize your insurance for prescriptions that are sent to the pharmacy of your choice and lab work can be ordered to outside labs that accept your insurance if desired. You can use your insurance for any referrals that need to be made to specialists or imaging. And for patients that do not have insurance, we can help negotiate cash prices for most hospital services and specialist appointments.
