Cook Children’s was thrilled to join the City of Frisco and the Frisco Chamber of Commerce as the community attempted to set a Guinness World Records title for the world’s largest soccer ball number yesterday!

Andrielle Collier, D.O., pediatrician at Cook Children's Pediatrics Windhaven and Carrie Hudspeth, practice manager at Cook Children's Pediatrics Parkwood were on-site to join the fun, celebrate the upcoming World Cup games and connect with the Frisco community and its families.

Thank you to the City of Frisco and the Frisco Chamber for inviting us to be part of the festivities. The whole morning was a blast -- we had a ball!! ⚜

When it comes to accessing pediatric specialty care, the more appointment options, the better -- especially for busy families caring for a child with complex medical needs. Beginning May 4, families living in the Plano area have another close-to-home location for connecting with Cook Children’s Health Care System and its vast network of pediatric specialty physicians.

Conveniently located just off the Sam Rayburn Tollway between Plano, Frisco, Allen and McKinney brimming with young families, Cook Children’s new multispecialty clinic gives patients increased access to pediatric physicians specializing in neurology, endocrinology, surgery, pulmonology, gastroenterology, nephrology, urology, plastic surgery and orthopedics. Cook Children’s physician specialists from the Prosper Specialty clinics will rotate through the clinic regularly, giving parents more choice and flexibility in scheduling appointments at a location most convenient to them.

“Patients requiring specialty care often need to see their specialist multiple times, and those with complex medical conditions may see multiple specialists across several departments regularly, said Teresa Baker, Cook Children’s vice president of Primary and Specialty Services. “In addition to the convenience of closer-to-home care, the new clinic increases appointment availability so busy families have more options when scheduling visits. The new location also provides additional space to add more physicians and advanced practice practitioners to meet the needs of families in the fast-growing communities of the region.”

This will be Cook Children’s seventh multispecialty clinic in the Metroplex. Others are located in Alliance, Denton, Hurst, Mansfield, Southlake and Walsh Ranch. To learn more, visit: https://tinyurl.com/5846c77u

Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America, easy to learn, fast-paced, fun and social. Nicole Pitts, D.O., sports medicine physician at Cook Children’s Pediatric Specialties Prosper, recently learned how to turn a pickleball game into pediatric care and created the Pickleball Medicine Program.

Pickleball is a great sport for people of all ages. There are many mental health benefits as it gives players an outlet and a fun form of physical activity. Pitts soon realized how much her life was benefitting from the sports and wanted to share that with others, including her own patients.

“I’m committed to helping young athletes have well-balanced, healthy and active lifestyles, but I’m also extremely passionate about helping young athletes prevent injuries and recover from them,” explains Pitts. “Having been a professional athlete myself and still playing in professional pickleball tournaments currently, I understand how difficult and frustrating injuries can be” she continues. "I want to be a mentor for them by supporting my patients through injury recovery and getting them back to playing the sport they love.”

That passion and commitment is why Pitts created the Pickleball Medicine program, the first pediatric program of its kind in the state of Texas. Since it’s a new sport for some young athletes, Pitts wants to introduce players to pickleball while providing them with the knowledge of playing safely. She understands the mental and physical benefits of the sport and the importance of protecting young players’ bodies. She believes pickleball is following the same path as tennis, where it will become more competitive and lead to more injuries among young players trying a new sport. This program combines her background in medicine and pickleball, drawing on her expertise both inside and outside the clinic.

Last spring, Nicole Pitts, D.O., sports medicine physician at Cook Children’s Pediatric Specialties Prosper, traded her stethoscope for a pickleball paddle and adventured off to the Cayman Islands. There she competed in a professional pickleball tournament alongside the sport’s top-ranked women....

The pinwheels are only one part of Cook Children’s 24/7 efforts to raise awareness about, prevent and care for those impacted by child abuse and neglect.
