Join us every Tuesday at the Portage County Health District following the Thrive Together Farmers Market for a FREE yoga class!

Led by our Health Educator and Certified Yoga Teacher, Kim Plough, this beginner-friendly class is perfect for all experience levels. Whether you're new to yoga or looking to refresh your practice, everyone is welcome!

Safe Communities, a program of the Portage County Health District, had a great time attending the Suffield Car Show on June 7!

Our health educator connected with community members and car show participants to share important traffic safety messages, including the importance of always wearing your seatbelt and avoiding distracted driving.

Community events like this provide valuable opportunities to promote safe driving habits and help keep Portage County roads safe for everyone.

Thank you to Suffield Township for hosting a wonderful event and for inviting us to be part of the day. We appreciate the opportunity to engage with residents and support traffic safety education in our community.

Safe Communities, a program of the Portage County Health District, was proud to attend UH Health & Safety Day on June 6, where we shared important traffic safety information with community members.

Visitors at our table learned about key safety initiatives, including Click It or Ticket and Look Out for Motorcycles, and how these efforts help keep everyone safer on our roadways.

We also received a special visit from Chomps, who helped demonstrate an important safety message by always buckling up!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to learn more about staying safe on our roadways. Together, we can make our community a safer place for everyone.

Rabies is a serious disease, but it is preventable through vaccination.

The Portage County Health District reviews animal bite reports, helps assess rabies risk, and determines when rabies vaccination may be needed.

In this video, we demonstrate how the rabies vaccine is administered. The vaccine is given as a quick injection in the upper arm. For individuals at higher risk of rabies exposure, including veterinarians, animal control officers, and some travelers, pre-exposure vaccination consists of two doses given one week apart.

Following a rabies exposure, the hospital will administer Rabies Immune Globulin (HRIG) and the first dose of the rabies vaccine series. Patients can then receive the remaining vaccine doses at the Portage County Health District.

Portage County Health District is pleased to partner with the Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County and Kent State University College of Public Health to offer A.I.D (Awareness, Interaction, and Direction) Mental Health Awareness Training for both Portage County Health District staff and community members.

This training will provide participants with practical tools to:
• Recognize warning signs that someone may be in distress
• Effectively interact with individuals who may need support
• Connect individuals with resources that can help

Come dressed and ready for the exam! We recommend tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, and easy to remove shoes.

Students with a serious pre-existing medical condition should schedule a physical with their primary care physician.
