πŸ’™ Thanks to the generosity of our community, the second annual Let's Get Ahead campaign raised $51,742 to support head and neck cancer care at Penn State Health.

Throughout Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Month, patients, caregivers, clinicians, staff and community partners came together to raise awareness, promote early detection and support innovative care for those facing head and neck cancer.

From free cancer screenings and community events to awareness initiatives and fundraising efforts, every contribution helped make an impact.

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's campaign and helped us continue advancing care for patients across our region and beyond.

πŸ’™ Sometimes the path to growing a family doesn't look the way you expect.

After struggling to conceive a second child, Hannah and Mark Padelsky found support, compassion and fertility care that respected their values and goals.

Working with Dr. Samantha Butts and the Penn State Health fertility team, they explored options that aligned with their family's wishes β€” ultimately welcoming twins Violet and Ace.

Today, their daughter Rosie couldn't be happier. After years of wishing for a brother and sister, her dream finally came true.

πŸ’™ Depression is not a normal part of aging.

If an aging parent has lost interest in activities they once enjoyed, is withdrawing from family and friends, or is experiencing changes in sleep, appetite or energy levels, it may be time to take a closer look.

In this week's Medical Minute, Dr. Badr Ratnakaran, a geriatric psychiatrist at Penn State Health, shares how families can recognize the signs of depression, start important conversations and help connect loved ones with the support they need.

Many parents aren't sure what to expect when it comes to their teen's first gynecological visit β€” or when that first appointment should happen.

According to Dr. Christina DeAngelis, obstetrician-gynecologist at Penn State Health, the first visit is often focused on education, prevention and helping teens feel comfortable asking questions about puberty, menstruation and reproductive health.

For one local family, that visit helped identify solutions for symptoms that were affecting their daughter's daily life and provided valuable information about reproductive health and wellness.

πŸ’™ Community health happens everywhere.

In schools. At health fairs. In neighborhoods. At community events. And through partnerships that help connect people with the care and resources they need.

Each year, Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine support more than 250 community benefit programs and host nearly 3,000 community events across the region.

As we celebrate Community Health Improvement Week, we're proud to share just a few of the ways our teams are working alongside community partners to build healthier communities.
