An opportunity to work can mean more than a paycheck. It can build confidence, independence, and lasting connections.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we’re celebrating two past Neal Poppin Award recipients whose careers show the impact of employment opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

Julie Paulson will celebrate 20 years at Safeway in Milpitas in April 2027! She remains a hardworking, valued member of her team. Outside of work, Julie lives independently and enjoys dance classes and performing. Fellow award recipient Doug Sheehan continues to do great work at the library, contributing his skills and dedication to his community.

When employers recognize people’s talents and provide opportunities, they help open doors to meaningful careers—and benefit from the contributions those employees bring.

The Story Continues – ART CONNECTS!
On November 13th, Creative Spotlight invites you to experience the extraordinary talent of a beautiful and diverse community at a multi-studio collective exhibition presented by AbilityPath, Futures Explored, and Helpers Community Inc.

Located at the Minnesota St. Project in San Francisco, CA, we will feature talented Bay Area artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), this inspiring evening celebrates access, representation, creativity, and belonging. Hear remarks from featured guest speaker Antonia Dapena-Tretter, Art Curator at Stanford’s Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Event features art from artists from Alchemia- Art Without Limits, Cedars Life and Hope Services.

Three days at Stanford reminded us that good technology starts with people.

I just completed Human-Centered AI for Social Impact, a program from Stanford HAI and the Stanford d.school. The biggest lesson: listen first, test early, and always protect trust.

We are applying these principles at AbilityPath, focusing on supporting parents, caregivers, participants, and staff, ensuring they can access and participate in the right AbilityPath programs.

I highly recommend this program to any social sector leader. Exploring AI for their mission. It was an action-packed three days with lots of hands-on learning! It was worth every minute.

Thrilled to celebrate the opening of Learning Links Preschool in Redwood City, 74 new spaces for children, infants to kindergarten. Supervisor Gauthier and I helped them buy some of the furniture, so we tested it.
