Paul Dewayne Clark, 71, passed away peacefully in his sleep. He was born August 2, 1955, to Ruth and John Clark and was the youngest of eleven children: John, Lillian, Madge, Pat, Dave, Jim, Norm, Steve, Chuck, and Doris.

When Paul was a young man, he proudly served in the United States Army.

Paul enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. In his younger years, he enjoyed living off the land and especially liked c**n hunting and deer hunting. He also enjoyed cutting wood, singing, and playing his guitar.

Paul loved his family and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He recently celebrated his 71st birthday surrounded by family and friends at Maple Grove AFC Home, where he was residing. It was a special celebration filled with people who cared about him.

Paul will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing, his music, and the many memories he shared with family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at noon at Barryton Community Park. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Paul's life and share memories.

Venus Grace Aris, 66, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Big Rapids Fields. She was born March 22, 1960, in Reed City, the daughter of James and Phyllis (Brissette) Maxfield.

Venus married Ed Aris, and together they made their home on the family farm in Grant Center area. Venus worked alongside Ed on their dairy farm for 20 years before beginning a 20-year career with Big Rapids Public Schools, where she retired as a media specialist at the middle school.

A lifelong supporter of youth and her community, Venus was a 4-H leader for more than 40 years. She spearheaded countless community activities and events through 4-H, helping raise support and awareness for many different organizations. One of her favorite times of the year was the Mecosta County Fair, where she loved seeing the excitement and accomplishments of the young people she encouraged.

Venus had many interests and talents. She enjoyed basket weaving, crafts, playing bingo, flower gardening, music and dancing, and was a member of the Big Rapids Oddfellow and Rebekah Lodge. Horses and rabbits held a special place in her heart. She loved entertaining family and friends and was always ready for an adventure. She especially cherished attending her children’s sporting events and never wanted to miss a game.

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Alice (Worrall) Lewis, 82, of Morley, Michigan. She passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, surrounded by family.

Alice was born September 5, 1943, to Harry and Dorothy (Apps) Worrall in Reed City, Michigan. She graduated from Reed City High School in 1961. After graduation, Alice spent a number of years working at Wolverine Worldwide, where she met her future husband. She continued to pursue her dream as a hairdresser and eventually became a salon owner. In later years, she worked as a cook at many establishments throughout the neighboring communities before retiring from Altercare as a dietary cook.

On September 28, 1968, she married her husband, Troy Lewis, and together they built their home and raised their family.

Alice was a proud and active member of Christ the King Catholic Church, where her faith and church community were an important part of her life.

Alice enjoyed cooking, knitting, and crocheting, but family was always at the center of her life. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mom, “Grandma Louie”, sister, aunt, friend, and mentor.

She is survived by her four children, Doreen (Greg) Johnson, Jim (Michelle) Lewis, David (Dalynn) Lewis, and Jayna (Don) Sherwood; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother John (Becky) Worrall; brother-in-law Richard Frisbie; and many other family members and friends.

Gregory Vaughn Mason Sr., 75, of Howard City, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at the Orchards of Big Rapids. He was born August 12, 1951, in Big Rapids.

Greg worked as a painter at Steelcase in Grand Rapids. He lived in Morley for several years and had lived in Howard City for the last eight years. On May 20, 1988, he married the love of his life, Kathy Hoaglin. After high school, Greg proudly served in the U.S. Navy.

Greg was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved working on motorcycles, riding them, building them, and especially ice racing. He also enjoyed hunting, traveling on vacations, and spending time with family and friends. Greg loved babies and especially enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren.

Greg was loving, a little bit stubborn, and very opinionated. He was a force to be reckoned with, and his presence was known wherever he was. He made friends with anyone and everyone he met and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Greg is survived by his wife, Kathy; his children, Greg Mason Jr., Harley (Emily Wester) Mason, and Carrie (Robert) SanMiguel; grandchildren, Leah, Lily, Konnor, Danika, Ernest, Gracie, Kenzie, Wyatt, and one more on the way; great-grandchildren, Octavia, Charlie, and Evangeline; sisters, Cindy (Dennis) DeVereaux and Barb Aley; and many other extended family members and friends.

Ronald Rykert, age 91, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, in Howard City, Michigan.

Ronald enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and will be remembered for his love of camping, trail riding, and tinkering in his garage. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family, often sharing stories and having a beer with those he loved.

Ronald is survived by his brother, Harvey Rykert; his sons, Kenneth Rykert, David Rykert, and Tim Rykert; and his grandchildren, Kelly Smith, Andrew Zylstra, Kady Orvis, Sophia Rykert, Amanda Canan, Alex Rykert, Steven Rykert, and Sean Rykert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Bessie Rykert; his wife, Joan Rykert; his daughter, Tamra Zylstra; and his brother, James Rykert.

A joint service honoring Ronald Rykert and his wife, Joan Rykert, will be held at the Coral Cemetery in Coral, Michigan, at a future date. Details regarding the service will be announced when arrangements have been finalized.

Steve Keeler, age 79, of Vestaburg, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at MyMichigan Medical Center in Midland. Steve was born and raised in Edmore to parents Dewey and Gretchen (Long) Keeler on December 5, 1946. He graduated from Vestaburg High School and was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, where he was trained as a medic. Before entering military service, Steve married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Ruth Nickerson on October 30, 1965. Together, they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage, raised three children, and built a life centered on hard work and love before Sandy's passing in February 2026. Steve began his career as a machinist, working for MA Metals for twenty years. Later, he followed his passion for automobiles, working alongside his son at their locally owned garage, S&S Auto, for the last thirty years. Steve especially loved building and racing cars, and in his younger years he enjoyed camping, gardening, and listening to country music. More than anything, family was the focus of his and Sandy’s (Ruth's) life.
Steve is lovingly remembered and missed by his children, Amy Frisbey, Kathy (Paul) Van Every, Steve (Wendy) Keeler; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Ernestine (Don) Wolf; several nieces, nephews, and extended family; along with many well-known community members.

Charles Alfred “Charlie” Schultz, 87, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at The Orchards, formerly Altercare. He was born October 14, 1938, in Langdon, North Dakota, the son of Alfred and Violet (Eckart) Schultz.

Charlie grew up in Caro and Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and lived the majority of his adult life in Big Rapids, where he was a beloved coworker, neighbor, and friend to many. Over the decades, Charlie’s warm, witty presence was a fixture of the Big Rapids community.

In the 1980s and 90s, Charlie won many medals and trophies in Area 5’s Special Olympics for softball, swimming, horseshoes, and bowling, of which he was rightly proud. He worked for MOARC in Paris for over 25 years, including on the Pioneer’s print line, among other craftsman jobs.

Overcoming many obstacles, he studied hard to earn his high school diploma as an adult, and he remained an avid reader throughout the rest of his life, studying immense volumes on Michigan history, U.S. presidents, and classical literature. Charlie was also a writer himself, composing original poetry and stories from his life.

A consummate hobbyist, Charlie loved attending old car shows, watching Tiger baseball, painting, and old movies. He was a cherished member of the Trinity Fellowship Church congregation for many years, and in his retirement, he loved to ride his electric scooter up and down the sidewalks of downtown Big Rapids, where he became a favorite patron and...

Dominic “Dom” Michael Richmond, 26, of Mecosta, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2026. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Christopher and Lori Richmond on March 12, 2000.
Dom was a hardworking, determined young man who always needed a purpose and never shied away from hard work. He started out as a teenager working at Hearty Harvest and for the Wernette's, he went on to learn carpentry from Will Benton and then decided to become self employed as a general contractor and taking on just about any job that needed to be done.
He loved baseball and was an exceptional player. He started out in Little League in Lakeview and moved up to a traveling baseball team as a teen, helping his team capture a championship by driving in runs with two doubles.
Like his Grandpa Hunt, Dom had a passion for hunting and fishing and loved spending his time outdoors.
One of the most meaningful parts of Dom’s life was his service with the fire department. He was a member of the Morton Township Fire Department and the Chippewa Lake-Martiny Township Fire Department. The fire department gave Dom something he always needed—a purpose, a team, and a way to serve others. He took great pride in being there when people needed him. He considered the fire department his second family.
