In EMS, watching out for one another is part of the job. We check our equipment, our surroundings, our patients and our partners. That same care should continue after the call is over.
Some calls stay with us. The weight of trauma, loss, long hours and constant responsibility can become difficult to carry alone. This Su***de Prevention Week, we encourage every EMS professional to check on their crew, start honest conversations and take changes in a partnerās behavior seriously.
Asking someone if they are thinking about su***de does not put the idea in their head. It lets them know they have been seen and do not have to face that moment alone.
Call or text 988 for free, confidential crisis support. First responders and their families can also contact Safe Call Now at (206) 459 3020. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
We watch out for each other on every call. That care should not end when the call does.
