Meet Melanie Haggard, Nurse Practitioner. 💗

For Melanie, women’s healthcare starts with listening. She believes in understanding what matters to each patient and making healthcare decisions together, so every woman feels heard, empowered, and confident in her care.

She also believes there should be no embarrassment when it comes to talking about your health. Whether it’s a question about vaginal health, painful s*x, changes in your period, urinary leakage, family planning, or something that simply doesn’t feel right, she wants her patients to feel comfortable bringing it up.

After beginning her career as a Labor and Delivery nurse, Melanie found a passion for caring for women during some of the most important and vulnerable moments of their lives. As a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, she’s grateful to continue that connection by supporting women through all stages of life—from pregnancy and family planning to perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.

One of your first steps is to contact your OB/GYN and schedule your first prenatal appointment. Even if you’re feeling well, early prenatal care is an important part of supporting your health and your baby’s development.

At OBGYN Associates, your pregnancy care begins with getting to know you, understanding your health history, and helping you know what to expect next.

Your early prenatal care may include:

✨ Reviewing your health history and any medications or supplements you take.

✨ Confirming your pregnancy and estimating your due date, when appropriate.

✨ Discussing prenatal vitamins, nutrition, and healthy habits.

✨ Planning recommended screenings, lab work, and ultrasounds based on your individual needs and stage of pregnancy.

When should you call? As soon as you have a positive pregnancy test, reach out to the office to arrange your first visit. The timing of that appointment will depend on your health history, symptoms, and how far along you are.

If you have severe abdominal or pelvic pain, heavy bleeding, fainting, or other concerning symptoms, seek urgent medical care rather than waiting for a routine appointment.

Women’s Wellness Wednesday 💗

Your menstrual cycle can tell you a lot about your health. While every woman is different, getting to know your own cycle can help you recognize when something changes.

Here are a few things worth paying attention to:

✨ Cycle length: Are your periods suddenly coming more or less often?

✨ Flow: Is your bleeding much heavier or lighter than usual?

✨ Pain: Are cramps becoming more severe or interfering with your daily life?

✨ Bleeding patterns: Are you experiencing spotting between periods, bleeding after s*x, or bleeding that lasts longer than usual?

Occasional changes can happen, but persistent or significant changes are worth discussing with your OB/GYN. Seek medical advice for very heavy bleeding, new or severe pelvic pain, or bleeding after menopause. If you're soaking through a pad or tampon every hour for several hours, especially with dizziness, shortness of breath, or chest pain, seek urgent medical care.

You don’t have to figure it out on your own. Your provider can help you understand what’s happening and whether further evaluation is needed.

Your period is part of your health—and your questions are always welcome. 💕
