Gloria Steinem passed away peacefully at her home in New York City on Wednesday. She was 92, vibrant, brilliant, and devoted to equality until the last days of her life. More than anything, Gloria was and will always be, a bright light of wisdom, justice, and kindness illuminating a path forward for all people.

We at Omega had the privilege of welcoming her to speak at conferences and to advise the founding and ongoing work of our Women’s Leadership Center. She brought to our campus what she brought everywhere—an ability to listen deeply to others even as she led with vision and courage. She made a huge difference in our country and our world—and yet she did so with a warm and welcoming heart. Her legacy is to inspire us to do the same in our own work and communities.

Her loved ones posted this: “Gloria loved the tradition of lighting signal fires on hills to light the way to the other side of the mountain. Lighting your own candle for Gloria makes you part of this global and celestial community circle.”
