Interns who successfully complete Project SEARCH see many lifelong benefits:

-Confidence in their abilities to learn job skills and become a self-advocate

-A guided transition from student life to working adult life with lifelong skills

-Opportunities to learn what they want (and realize what they don't want) in a prospective job

-Increased self-esteem, work ethic and relationship-building skills

-A brighter outlook to be a gainfully employed and independent adult

-Receive the tools needed to set goals and turn experiences into resume and job interview assets

Project SEARCH interns have an 88% success rate of procuring gainful employment after their internship is completed. For Project SEARCH to succeed, interns need a passion to improve their vocational skills and a desire to work. Individuals must apply for the program, and have appropriate hygiene, some communication skills and the determination to learn new employability skills.

Invisible Disabilities Awareness Week runs from October 18 to 24, 2026. While some disabilities are visible, many are non-apparent, meaning they are not immediately apparent to others. These disabilities can be temporary, situational, or permanent.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) does not provide a specific list of conditions that qualify as disabilities. Under the ADA, “disability” is a legal term rather than a medical one. The ADA broadly defines a person with a disability as someone who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

The definition also includes people with a record of such an impairment and people who are regarded as having such an impairment. The ADA also makes it unlawful to discriminate against a person based on that person’s association with a person with a disability.

Shoutout to Noble's Tire Service for hiring Jayce (one of our 2026 Project SEARCH graduates)

Jayce is doing great; he has built on his previous skills and job tasks at Noble’s Tires. The company is so good to him, very understanding and patient. Jayce is even initiating the jobs for the day without employees telling him what to do.

WAY TO GO, Jayce! We are so very proud of you!

October is a month to recognize, learn about, and celebrate the disability community. These and other observances throughout the month recognize the experiences, contributions, and achievements of people with disabilities and the communities that support them.

This month and throughout the year, take time to learn, listen, recognize, and celebrate.
