Today was an absolutely awful day for Emerson. š
What was supposed to be a normal clinic visit to check his counts and talk about his maintenance chemo turned into a day of stomach pain, vomiting, fear, and worrying that we were headed right back into the hospital.
His stomach started hurting around his belly button, and it would come and go. One minute he seemed okay and the next he was hurting, angry, and scared. Then the vomiting started, and he ended up throwing up around six times.
After everything heās been through, of course my mind immediately went to the place I never want to go again. We do NOT want another episode like the typhlitis and hospitalization weāve already lived through.
We went back into clinic, they tried medicine for gas, and eventually did an X-ray. Thankfully, it showed that heās constipated. His belly was soft, everything else was reassuring, and we got to come home! š
Iām also wondering if his oral methotrexate is contributing to how rough his stomach has been. Last Thursday he took 4 pills and today he took 6, so thatās definitely something Iāll be talking to his team about.
The hardest part was watching him be scared. He remembers being sick. He remembers being hospitalized. He knows what it means when his belly hurts and suddenly everyone is examining him and ordering tests. I hate that those are things he even has to think about.
BUT ā he is good! ā¤ļø Heās home, heās okay, and thatās what matters most. Heāll be staying home from school tomorrow to rest and recover after the day heās had. His little body deserves a day to just relax.
And since today was such a crappy day, maybe we can fill the next few days with a little happy mail for Emerson! š„¹š If anyone wants to send him something to make him smile while heās recovering, Iām dropping his Amazon wishlist below. There is absolutely NO pressure to buy anything cards, little notes, or simply sending him some love are just as appreciated. ā¤ļø

Today sucked. Tomorrow we rest. And then we keep going. š
