Sopdet Rises, & I am overcome by grief
Like an ache that echoes across
A thousand Generations.
Did we know what we were leaving?
Our past mythologized, romanticized —
A shell of something lost
But not forgotten.
Once a year, a surge of memory
Fills my veins like a River.
This body holding onto the unrequited Hope
Of Return.
I drink of Lotus
From my grandmother’s crystal,
As the women before her
Knew secrets better kept by
Silence.
I let myself get still
And listen for their songs…
——
The fallen body parts of a God
Cast upon the Land
Like seeds.
So we become Water in the desert,
Waking up the Old Ones
And asking for their stories.
Gaze pointed skyward,
We open our ear to the Great Below
And listen…
The Land is Serpentine;
She traces footsteps against Her belly
Filling date palms & Springs
Where there has only ever been fire.
She takes care of her people,
Prostrated before this miracle of being.
I weep & drop my tears into her pool.
Our work is in remembering;
Seeking out the hidden places
Under cover of darkness,
The body of a Mother
Stretched across the sky
Like some Great Blue Rainbow.
We embrace the double horizon
Where both roads meet;
We become the bridge between.
Children of Gods, Ancestors future;
A song of Earth & Sky,
A walking memory.
The Land tells us a story of cycles,
Of what we are made of,
This living & this dying.
From the East, that Great Solar Disc
Emerges, singing a ballad
Of triumph over darkness.
Khepri rolls this fiery wheel
Across the southern sky, flooding the land
With White Heat & intensity.
In the West we prepare to die,
Wrapping our bodies & boarding the boat
Into our Mother’s mouth.
We make our journey,
Heading North into the Great Above,
To enter the Bear’s Sky Lodge.
In the silence of the desert,
The wind wakes & asks for you
Whispering secrets in the space
Between breaths.
If you are listening,
You can hear it speak
Through everything.

Grateful for the Lotus who holds memory that opens as soon as she touches your lips, giving birth to the Sun within. The Land will share Her memory with those that listen with the belly 🌅
