Healthi Kids Healthi Kids is a grassroots community coalition and an initiative of Common Ground Health.

The Healthi Kids Coalition embraces kids and families at the center of all decision making. Together we advocate policies, systems and environmental changes that nurture the physical, social, emotional and cognitive development of kids from birth to age 8. We do this by focusing on policies that promote healthy habit building and healthy relationships, create safe and secure environments and psychological safety, and cultivate skills and competencies of adults who care for children.

Native cultures are living cultures.

For Native American Heritage Month, our latest Culture Corner gives families three ways to learn together:

đź“– Read a Haudenosaunee message of gratitude
📺 Watch a child-friendly introduction to Native communities across North America
🌟 Attend the free Haudenosaunee Heritage Celebration Day at the Memorial Art Gallery

The November 22 celebration will feature dance and cultural demonstrations from the Allegany River Seneca Dancers, storytelling, history, display tables, and more.

Caregivers need care, too.

When you feel overwhelmed, taking a moment to breathe, reset, or reach out for support can help you return with more patience and presence.

Caring for yourself is not separate from caring for your child. It is part of it.

Providing healthy food that kids enjoy is an important part of making sure our kids are ready to learn. RCSD’s revised wellness policy created a Meals Advisory Council to give students, families, school staff, and community partners a voice in improving school food. Now, the council is getting started.

Join a virtual Food Services 101 kick-off meeting on Nov. 16 or Nov. 20 to learn how school meals work, submit your questions, and find out how you can participate.

When children know a caring adult is nearby, they have a secure place from which to explore, try new things, and return for reassurance.

You don’t have to direct every moment. Sometimes, being present and following your child’s lead is exactly what your child needs.

📊 The numbers are a wake-up call.

The City's new traffic safety dashboard shows the impact traffic crashes are having across Rochester.

At Healthi Kids, we've heard another part of the story: families tell us speeding cars are the biggest thing keeping kids from playing outside.

That's why we're talking about speed.

Research shows that even slowing down by 5 mph can save lives.

Safer speeds mean safer streets. Safer streets mean more opportunities for kids to play, bike, walk, and enjoy their neighborhoods.

đź’› Drive safely so kids can play safely.

Strong communities start with strong relationships.

Research shows that positive early relationships play a critical role in lifelong mental health and well-being. Through Love From the Start, Healthi Kids helps parents, caregivers, and communities understand how everyday interactions can support healthy child development.

Recently, we hosted an Infant Toddler Play Day in Greece, bringing together families for hands-on activities that encouraged connection, learning, and play. Events like these help translate research into practical strategies parents and caregivers can use every day.

The little moments matter.

From sharing a smile to reading a favorite book together, early relationships help build the foundation for a child’s lifelong mental health and well-being. That's the inspiration behind our Love From the Start campaign.

Recently, about 15 families joined us in Greece for an Infant Toddler Play Day, where children explored, played, and learned alongside their parents and caregivers. It was a chance to connect, have fun, and discover simple ways to support healthy development through everyday interactions.

Parenting comes with hard days, wrong turns, and plenty of learning along the way. Babies don’t need caregivers to get everything right. They need consistent love, care, and opportunities to reconnect.

Responsive relationships help lay the foundation for infant and early childhood mental health.
