Exudate can tell a story before the wound looks dramatically different.
Color, consistency, volume and odor can signal whether the wound environment is moving in the right direction or needs a closer look.
That’s why exudate assessment should never be treated as a quick visual check. It supports clinical reasoning, dressing selection, documentation and timely reassessment.
When the wound changes, the plan may need to change too.
