Meet Mabel! 🪿

Our Rogers clinic has a new face around the lobby! Mabel has hopped aboard the All Aboard train and, naturally, put herself in charge.

As our resident silly goose and newly appointed conductor, you can expect to find her around the clinic ā€œhelping,ā€ getting into things, and of course, dressed for the occasion.

Keep an eye out for Mabel when you’re here. This goose has places to be.

Wacky Wednesday: Craft of the Week!šŸš‚šŸ’™

This week, our kiddos made Forky! We had so much fun getting creative while working on important skills at the same time.

This simple craft gave our kiddos the chance to practice:
• Following directions
• Fine motor skills
• Hand eye coordination
• Creativity
• Focus

The best part? They were having so much fun they didn’t even realize they were learning.

We can’t wait to see what next week’s Craft of the Week brings!

Therapy Thursday: Why Fine Motor Skills Matter

When you hear ā€œfine motor skills,ā€ you might think of handwriting, but they’re so much more than that.

Fine motor skills are the small movements of the hands and fingers that help children complete everyday tasks like buttoning a shirt, holding a spoon, brushing their teeth, building with blocks, or coloring a picture.

If these tasks seem difficult or frustrating for your child, they may simply need extra support to strengthen the muscles and coordination in their hands.

Easy ways to build fine motor skills at home:
• Color or paint with broken crayons.
• Practice cutting with child safe scissors.
• Build with blocks or LEGO bricks.
• Use tongs or tweezers to pick up cotton balls, pom poms, or cereal.
• Complete puzzles or string large beads.
• Roll, squeeze, and flatten play dough.

At All Aboard Pediatric Therapy, our occupational therapists use fun, play based activities to help children develop these important skills while building confidence and independence along the way.

Every child develops at their own pace, and we’re here to support them every step of the way.

What fine motor activity does your child enjoy most? Let us know in the comments!šŸš‚šŸ’™

Mini Tip Monday: Sensory Regulation

Did you know? Sometimes what looks like ā€œbad behaviorā€ is actually a child trying to communicate that they’re feeling overwhelmed.

Mini Tips for Sensory Regulation:

Look for early signs before a meltdown, such as:
• Covering their ears
• Avoiding touch
• Seeking extra movement (jumping, spinning, crashing)

Recognizing these cues early can help you respond before your child becomes overwhelmed.

Try a ā€œheavy workā€ activity before challenging situations.
Ideas include:
• Pushing a laundry basket
• Carrying groceries
• Animal walks
• Helping move pillows or cushions
• Wearing a weighted backpack (when recommended by your child’s therapist)

Create a calm down corner.
Designate a cozy space with a bean bag chair or comfy chair, favorite books, fidget toys, stuffed animals, noise reducing headphones, or other calming items. The goal is to provide a safe place to regulate emotions, not a punishment spot.

Every child has unique sensory needs, and finding what helps them feel calm and organized can make a big difference.

Small strategies can lead to big successes!šŸš‚ā¤ļø

This week, our kiddos got to create Magic Water Elves! šŸŒˆšŸ’§

While it may look like just a fun craft, activities like this are packed with opportunities for learning and development.

As children squeeze, pour, and create, they’re working on:
✨ Following directions
✨ Fine motor skills
✨ Hand-eye coordination
✨ Attention and focus
✨ Sensory exploration
✨ Turn-taking and communication

Hands-on activities help children learn through play while encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and confidence along the way.

And let’s be honest—the magic part makes it even more exciting! šŸŖ„

What do you think? Would your child love making Magic Water Elves? šŸ‘‡

Childhood Apraxia of Speech is more than a speech delay — it’s a motor speech disorder that affects a child’s ability to plan and coordinate the movements needed for speech. Children with apraxia know what they want to say, but communicating those words can be incredibly challenging.

Early intervention and consistent therapy can make a huge difference. With patience, encouragement, and support, children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech can continue building confidence and communication skills one step at a time. šŸ’™

✨ Meet Jennifer, Billing & Referral Coordinator! ✨

Jennifer has been with All Aboard for 11 years, and her favorite part of her role is interacting with the kids—she truly loves it!

If she had to trade jobs with a therapy kid for the day, she’d happily choose nap time or snack time šŸ˜„

Her intro song? ā€œGirls Just Want to Have Funā€ šŸŽ¶

When she’s not at work, you can find Jennifer supporting her kids in the activities they love, going for walks, attending sporting events and concerts, or enjoying a good trip to the beach! šŸ–ļø

Her spirit animal is a badger — determined, stubborn, and a little hard-headed in the best way!

To get through her day, you’ll usually find her sipping on coffee or energy drinks ā˜•āš”

We’re so grateful for Jennifer’s dedication, energy, and heart for the families we serve!
