Every morning, Callahan’s big sister Alaina helps wake him up with her special greeting.

After spending 8 months in the hospital as a newborn, these simple moments at home mean everything to their family.

We’re grateful to be part of Callahan’s journey through nursing, respiratory therapy, and clinical nutrition services that help support life at home.

This week we’re celebrating Elena, Registered Respiratory Therapist in Minneapolis.

What she enjoys about PHS: “I love my role of teaching families how to use the medical equipment their child needs to go home safely.”

What she's currently enjoying : “I'm re-reading 100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I would recommend this book to anyone.”

Today, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We are grateful for the veterans and military families within our PHS community and extend our deepest thanks to all who have served.

This Memorial Day, we pause in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. ❤️🤍💙

“I am currently enjoying my family that has actually moved closer to me from Waco. In my spare time I love paint new things, like canvas or vases. I love to turn something old into something new and beautiful.”

At just 2 months old, Max's life, and his family’s, changed forever.

What started as constant crying led to a diagnosis of hydrocephalus, emergency surgery, and a journey no parent ever expects. Today, Max is 14, living with quadriplegic cerebral palsy, is ventilator-dependent, and has undergone 17 surgeries.

But that’s only part of his story.

Max is also full of joy. He loves Bluey, books, nerf guns, his grandma, and his nurse!

Through every high and low, his family hasn’t done it alone.

“Getting a nurse from PHS was one of the best decisions I ever made,” his mom shared. “You don’t feel alone. You have a team—someone in your corner.”

From being a “rock” in the early days to building deep trust today, PHS nurses are more than caregivers—they’re part of the family. 💙

Minnesota's medically complex children have champions in the Capitol, and we are deeply grateful for them.

Thank you to Senator Liz Boldon, Senator Warren Limmer, Senator Matt Klein, and Senator Jim Abeler, and to Representative Robert Bierman and Representative Erin Koegel for standing up for Minnesota's most vulnerable kids and their families this session.

These legislators understood what was at stake — children who depend on skilled nursing care to be safely at home, families already stretched to their limit, and a 16-year coverage standard being quietly dismantled. They showed up, they fought, and their voices mattered.

Our work is not done. But we are grateful to have leaders who see our families and refuse to look away.

A PPEC provides a safe, medically supervised environment that allows children to discharge from the hospital while continuing to receive skilled nursing care during the day. This helps support a smoother transition home and reduces extended hospital stays.
