For many kids, the end of school brings the excitement of endless summer fun. For some kids however, school ending brings the uncertainty of not knowing when or where their next meal where come from.

1 in 5 kids go hungry during the summer without school being open to provide breakfast and lunch. There are several different programs and resources to help combat this. Visit whyhunger.org to learn more/find more resources or call our office for information.

Oftentimes, guns are kept in our homes for sports and hobbies such as hunting, and kids are exposed to this early on. This can sometimes make kids (and even us grownups) forget that guns can be dangerous. Today is National SAFE Day. SAFE is an acronym that stands for Secure, Ask, Frequently, and Educate. Today, on National SAFE Day, take a couple minutes to remind your kids about firearm safety so that they can continue to participate in firearm sports safely.

If you don't currently have your fi****ms secured, you can get FREE gun locks. Check the website below on where to get a free gun lock closest to you (most police/sheriffs departments provide them).

¿Conoce nuestro Banco de Recursos "Little Nest"?

Today is World Bicycle Day! During the summer months, we see a huge increase in bicycle use, especially with kids. When kids get a little older, parents often allow them to go places alone on their bikes, so it is very important to teach them bike safety when they are young so that they continue to use bike safety when they are allowed to go alone!

What's your go to CPR song? There are a lot of options! Drop yours in the comments below:

This week is CPR and AED Awareness Week. While most of us are not medical professionals or first responders, you never know when you might be in the position to give life saving CPR to someone. Today, during CPR and AED Awareness Week, take a few moments to remind yourself of the steps for CPR so you are ready, just in case.

Did you know that you can give effective CPR hands-only? Giving chest compressions at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute is considered effective CPR, no mouth-to-mouth required!

Do you know about our Little Nest Resource Bank? Here at NCCHS, we have a free resource bank that includes diapers, wipes, formula, infant/toddler clothes, hygiene items, and postpartum items. And, we are expanding every day!

This resource bank is completely free, no questions asked. All we ask of you is that you register with us (https://bit.ly/NCCHS_LittleNest) so that we can keep our bank stocked with the correct items (it just helps with inventory!)

Our bank is run entirely on donations from our generous community. If you have an open box of diapers that doesn't fit your baby anymore, you have an un-opened soap you can't use, or just would like to donate monetarily, everything helps! No baby deserves a dirty diaper.

Every parent knows that raising a baby or toddler comes with many challenges, but one of the most pressing and often overlooked struggles is diaper need. Diaper need means not having enough diapers to keep a child clean, dry, and healthy. In Kansas, many families face this issue daily, which can lea...

Today is National Sunscreen Day! As we begin our summer break and as the weather heats up, it is really important to remember to use sunscreen whenever we are outside for extended periods of time (not just when we are in the water!!). Sunscreen helps to prevent skin damage from the sun, which can lessen the risk of skin cancer.

Sunscreen is not just important for kids, but adults as well. So, don't let the inconvenience of putting on sunscreen stop you from protecting yourself!
_________
