The doulas we mentor don’t just get interviews, they book clients. Not by luck, by knowing exactly how to show up.

You can be an incredible doula, even an experienced one, and still lose the client in the consult. Often it’s not about whether you were the right fit, it’s that you didn’t know how to show them you were. This is just one of the things we teach the doulas in our mentorship program, but it’s something every doula should know how to do. Especially if you want to make birthwork your career.

So we put what we know into a freebie! And it’s open to everyone, not just our mentorship members. We’ll give you our best tips and tricks so you can show up to the interview grounded and confident, understand how to speak to what a family actually needs to hear, and stand out from every other doula they’re considering.

Consider it our gift to you. Download the free guide at https://www.pivotpointbirth.com/mentorship-freebie

October brought us seven more beautiful babies! These families are so dear to our hearts and it was amazing to support them in their journeys. Congratulations to every one of these families! 🩷

We're going to be honest about something the doula world doesn't say out loud enough: the fear of the on-call life keeps a lot of good doulas small.

They don't grow their practice. They quietly cap their clients, turn down the work they actually want, and tell themselves it's just not the season, all because the thought of being permanently glued to their phone feels impossible alongside real life. We get it. We've felt it.

But playing small isn't the only option, and neither is burning out. There's a third path, the one nobody handed us when we started, where you build the kind of practice you actually dreamed about and still make it to the recital. It's not about grit or luck or loving the work more than everyone else. It's about knowing how to set the whole thing up so it works with your life instead of swallowing it.

That's the part we teach. If you're ready to grow without giving up everything else, our mentorship program is for you. Visit pivotpointbirth.com to learn more and apply.

One of the most common mix-ups we hear? People assume a doula is basically a midwife, or that we're there to butt heads with the hospital on your behalf. Neither is true.

A doula doesn't handle the clinical side, that's your provider's job, and we stay firmly in our lane. What we do is everything around that: the preparation beforehand, the steady hands and calm presence during, and the support that helps you understand what's happening so the choices you make are truly yours.

And here's what sets us apart: the hospital is our specialty. It's a setting with its own rules and a rotating cast of staff, and knowing how to keep your wishes at the center of all that is exactly what we've spent years mastering. Your medical team looks after your body. We look after you, the whole experience of you. When those two roles work together, that's when birth feels less like something happening to you and more like something you're moving through with confidence.

Questions about what support could look like for your birth? Send us a DM or visit pivotpointbirth.com to learn how we approach doula care.

New doulas often think the way to prove their worth is to be there for every second, show up at the first contraction, never leave the room, run themselves into the ground to demonstrate commitment.

But here's what actually happens when you do that: you burn out fast, you're exhausted before the hard part even begins, and you're teaching clients to lean on your presence instead of their own preparation.

The doulas who last flip this. They pour their energy into the prenatal work, so that by the time labor starts, their clients are so well-prepared they don't need someone hovering every minute. And the time you are at the hospital? That's when the real skill shows: reading the room, working with the staff, and keeping your client's wishes centered inside a system with its own rules. That's not about clocking more hours. It's about knowing exactly what to do with the ones that count.

Knowing when to go, when to stay, and how to prep clients so your presence is powerful instead of constant? That's a learnable skill. It's one of the exact things we teach in our mentorship.

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a month that asks us to slow down and remember the families whose grief often goes unspoken.

For doulas, it's also a moment to reflect on the weight we sometimes carry into this work. Because at some point, most of us will sit beside a family in their hardest hour. It's a profound privilege, and it's one of the parts of birthwork that can leave the deepest mark on us, too.

Being trusted to hold space in those moments isn't something you're simply born knowing how to do. It's learned, and it's carried more easily when you're not carrying it alone.

This month, we're honoring the families who've known loss, and the doulas who show up for them with steady hands and open hearts. 🤍

Between the two of us, it's been 15+ years and hundreds of families.

Countless 3am phone calls. Plans that went exactly as hoped and plans that turned on a dime. Through all of it, our job has stayed the same: making sure no one has to feel alone or unsure in their own birth.

One of our families put it better than we could:

""She was educational, helpful, a source of steady calm during the storm. She helped me work through my anxieties surrounding birth beforehand. She truly made the delivery of my baby such a special experience."" — Lindsay

That's the work. And after all these years, it still feels like the best job in the world.

You did the training. You've got the passion. Now what?

How do you actually get clients? And not just any clients, the right ones, the ones who are a fit for how you want to work? How do you price yourself, structure your packages, and build something that pays you without running you into the ground?

Here's what we want you to know: you don't have to wing it. You don't have to learn every lesson the hard way, through the overbooked calendar and the burnout and the births you said yes to when your gut said no. That was our path because no one showed us a better one. It doesn't have to be yours.

Our mentorship is the shortcut we never had. Two seasoned doulas walking you through the exact systems, booking clients, building your packages, navigating the hospital, protecting your time, so you can skip years of trial and error and build it right from the start.

You finished your training. Let us help you with the "now what." Visit pivotpointbirth.com to learn more an apply 💛

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

There is no single way to lose a baby, and no single way to carry it afterward. Some losses came before the world ever knew. Some came after months of hoping, or in a hospital room, or in a silence where a heartbeat should have been. Some are still being grieved quietly, years later.

Wherever your loss falls, and however alone it may have felt, we want you to know it counts. Your baby counts. Your grief is not too much, and it is not yours to carry unseen.

Tonight at 7pm, families around the world will light a candle in the Wave of Light, one hour of candles crossing every time zone so that no baby goes unremembered. If today is heavy for you, consider this your reminder that you are held, and you are not alone. 🤍

"How do I turn this into an actual career?"

It's the question almost every new doula lands on eventually, usually right about the time the excitement of finishing training meets the reality of trying to make a living at it. And the honest answer is: not by working yourself to the bone, and not by collecting another certificate.

The doulas who last are the ones who treat this like the business it is. They have systems for pricing, for prenatal prep, for the hospital, for the on-call life. That's not something you're born knowing. It's something you learn, ideally from someone who's already walked it.

That's what our mentorship is for. If you're ready to stop white-knuckling it and build something that's sustainable, we'd love to show you how.

We only take on so many mentees at a time, so if you're interested, apply soon! Learn more and apply at pivotpointbirth.com
