An ectopic pregnancy happens when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in a fallopian tube. It cannot continue safely and may cause life-threatening internal bleeding.
Warning signs may include:
• Vaginal bleeding or brown discharge
• Pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis, especially on one side
• Shoulder pain
• Dizziness, weakness, or fainting
If you may be pregnant and have sudden severe pain, fainting, significant dizziness, or shoulder pain, call 911 or go directly to an emergency department.
