Yesterday, Mackinac Straits Health System proudly hosted Michigan Health & Hospital Association Keystone Center Safe Table Event, focused on medication safety and preventing errors in rural hospitals.

Hospital Pharmacist, John Wininger, served as the guest speaker, leading valuable discussions and training centered on improving patient safety and strengthening best practices in rural healthcare settings. Drawing from his own experience living and working on Mackinac Island, John shared unique insights into the challenges and importance of delivering safe, effective care in rural communities.

Mackinac Straits Health System is proud to announce the arrival of the da Vinci Surgical Robotic System in St. Ignace, expanding access to advanced, minimally invasive surgical care in Northern Michigan. 🩺

Initially supporting outpatient procedures in General Surgery and Urology, the program represents a significant investment in the future of healthcare in our region.

🤖 To mark this exciting milestone, local third graders participated in a community-wide “Name the Robot” contest, generating 137 creative submissions. Congratulations to Abigail from Pellston Schools, whose winning entry — Y.O.O.P.R. (Your Original Operating Patient Responder) — was selected as the official name.

We look forward to continuing to expand innovative surgical services while keeping high-quality care close to home. 🩵
