Does your teen want friends but struggle to make or keep them?

Maybe they aren't sure how to join a conversation. Maybe they miss social cues or have frequent misunderstandings with peers. Maybe they feel left out but don't know what to do differently.

And sometimes, being told to "just put yourself out there" doesn't really help.

Our latest blog looks at why friendships can be difficult for some teens and what parents can do to help, including practical ways to support communication, self-advocacy, confidence, and connection. Most importantly, social skills support isn't about changing who your teen is

We also offer a teen social skills group at Balanced Minds Psychology & Wellness for teens who would benefit from practicing these skills in a supportive peer environment.

Being an adult comes with a lot of things no one really prepares you for...

Making your own appointments. Remembering to pay the bill. Keeping up with work. Grocery shopping. Cleaning. Managing your money. Responding to texts. Figuring out your career. Maintaining friendships. And then wondering why you're exhausted.

For some young adults, it's not that they don't *want* to get things done. They genuinely have a hard time figuring out where to start, remembering everything, managing their time, or following through.

Our latest blog takes a closer look at **why adulting can feel so hard** and offers practical ways to make everyday responsibilities more manageable. Check it out!

No one really tells you how many little things come with being an adult. You have to work. Pay bills. Make appointments. Buy groceries. Keep your space clean. Respond to emails. Schedule the dentist. Remember birthdays. Do laundry. Take care of your car. Make plans. Cancel plans. Make dinner. And som...

🚨 When your teen refuses to go to school, it's easy to assume they're being difficult. But what if they're actually struggling?

School refusal can be a sign that something deeper is going on. Anxiety, social pressure, bullying, ADHD, learning differences, perfectionism, depression, and feeling overwhelmed academically can all contribute to a teen avoiding school.

You may notice:
β€’ Frequent stomachaches or headaches on school mornings
β€’ Panic or emotional outbursts
β€’ Trouble getting out of bed
β€’ Missing certain classes or arriving late
β€’ A sudden drop in grades
β€’ Increasing isolation or withdrawal

The goal isn't simply to force your teen through the school doors. It's to understand why school has become so difficult and help them develop the skills and support they need to manage it.

Our latest blog explores the signs of school refusal, what may be underneath it, and practical ways parents can respond.

It's Monday morning. The alarm has gone off several times, and your teen still isn't getting out of bed. Maybe they're saying they feel sick. Maybe they're crying. Maybe they're angry and insisting they aren't going to school. Or maybe this has been happening for weeks, and every morning has become....

Name It to Tame It: a simple 3-step exercise to help your teen calm strong feelings.

1) Pause and notice the feeling.
2) Give it a clear name (anger, shame, anxiety).
3) Breathe and talk about what comes next.

Naming emotions reduces their intensity and builds self-awareness. Try this together tonight and notice the shift.
