Utterly devastated typing this. This is Griffin, the sweetest and most charismatic 8 year old boy whom I have gotten to know over the past several years after meeting him and his beautiful family while staying at the House as he and his little brother, Declan, were receiving treatment for CDH. His moms have always been THE kindest and most supportive people and even though we haven’t seen each other in a few years, we still keep in touch and check in on each other. This week, the unimaginable happened, as Griffin was experiencing one of his episodes that he routinely gets with his condition, he experienced a cardiac arrest at home, where his mothers performed CPR. This led to a series of multiple medical events over the past two days which ultimately led to an irreversible brain herniation. He was declared brain dead this morning at 11:32, and in honoring his wishes, tomorrow, on what should be his 9th birthday, Griffin will receive an Honor Walk and complete the most sacred act of all, donating the gift of life so that others of all ages can continue to experience even a tenth of the pure joy, love and light that Griffin IS. The halls of Children’s will be lined with rainbows— because if you knew him, you knew he couldn’t pick ONE favorite color because it would make all of the other colors feel bad. 🥹💔🌈 Please pray for the Thompson-Crew family, for Angie and Veronica as they prepare their sweet boy for his final race to the heavens, and especially little Declan, as he learns to navigate life without his best buddy by his side. URGENT NEED: In lieu of our annual Holiday Haul & Musical Toy Drive for the children and families at , we have made the decision to put our efforts where they are genuinely needed the most and to continue our Hurricane Relief donation drive for them through the remainder of the year. As much as the holiday season brings us joy, the truth is that there will be no holiday this year if there is no relief. We need all hands on deck to keep these houses afloat so that they can continue their essential work in serving the most vulnerable families. Hurricanes Helene and Milton greatly devastated the Tampa Bay Area, and multiple RMHC houses and facilities sustained some massive damages. With these new re-construction costs, we want to fill the void where we can and do everything in our power to keep these houses stocked with all of the necessities (shelf stable foods, drinks, on-the-go meals, cleaning supplies, hygiene products, safety supplies, blankets, clothing, etc.) so that they can continue their mission and provide shelter, food, and respite nearby the hospital for these medically complex children and families.
