Dream Flights honored nine Friendship Retirement veterans with an unforgettable flight in a restored WWII biplane — a special experience that brought back memories, sparked new ones and gave our community a chance to celebrate their service.

Eight veterans from Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke were honored with biplane rides by Dream Flights at Roanoke-Blacksburg Regional Airport.

We had the privilege of honoring nine Friendship Retirement veterans today as Dream Flights brought a once-in-a-lifetime experience to Roanoke — free flights in a restored World War II Stearman biplane ✈️

Surrounded by family and friends cheering them on, our veterans took to the skies and shared the stories that shaped their lives.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice. And thank you to Dream Flights and Sport Clips Haircuts of Blacksburg for making this unforgettable day possible!

🎶🎨🌭 What a Friday at Richfield Friendship!

We kicked off the afternoon with live music from Andrew Ragsdale, then brought a little taste of Coney Island to Richfield! 🌭🎡

There was face painting, hot dogs, funnel cake, cotton candy and plenty of music and fun. 💙

Good food, great music and even better company. Now THAT’S a Friday! 🎉

We’re still dreaming about our summer Luau hosted by Anser Café! 🌴☀️

From savory Shoyu Chicken and Kalua Pork to Hawaiian coleslaw and char-grilled corn, our plates were packed with island-inspired flavor. And we couldn’t forget dessert—a homemade Hawaiian donut paired with a delicious Kona latte! ☕🍩

The food was AMAZING! 😋🌺

It was a privilege to celebrate three remarkable members of our community whose dedication, service and achievements have made a lasting impact on the region.
🌟 Richard Chubb — A teacher, coach, guidance counselor and elementary school principal who dedicated his career to helping students and strengthening his community.
🌟 Ted Edlich — A longtime leader of Total Action for Progress (TAP) who spent four decades championing education, employment, housing and business development programs that have helped thousands of people across our region.
🌟 Kris Tilley-Lubbs — A former Virginia Tech professor and Roanoke County Spanish teacher and department head, as well as the founder of Casa Latina, author and advocate.
We are grateful for the opportunity to honor their lifetime of achievement, service and leadership. Congratulations to our 2026 honorees! 🎉

There’s nothing like spending a rainy day listening to beautiful piano music. We were treated to a wonderful performance by local pianist and teacher Samir Vugdalic! 🎹❤️

We had a great time painting rocks to add a colorful touch to the Joseph C. Thomas Center’s raised flower bed garden! We can’t wait to see how these little works of art brighten up the garden. 🌸🪨💐

Talk about a baa-rilliant day! We had lots of adorable visitors from the Little Critters Petting Zoo today! From baby goats to cuddly bunnies, there were plenty of smiles, laughs and animal love all around. ❤️
