Bridging a critical gap in pediatric care requires rethinking how we define “normal,” especially when healthy samples are scarce. Kelly Doyle, PhD, DABCC, and colleague Kwaku Baryeh, PhD, DABCC, applied indirect methods to determine pediatric reference intervals for glucose-6-phasphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency. As this is the most common enzymopathy worldwide, more accurate reference intervals will lead to earlier diagnosis and prevent permanent damage from G6PD deficiency.
