Twenty-eight new nurse graduates marked their completion of the Shannon Nurse Residency Program on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Shannon Development Center. These graduates demonstrated their knowledge from the year-long program by presenting Evidence-Based Practice Projects pertinent to their unit or their work at Shannon. Congratulations!

In 2018, Shannon Medical Center began the Nurse Residency Program to support new nurse graduates as they transition into their first professional roles. For more information about the Nurse Residency Program, visit https://www.shannonhealth.com/careers/nursing-at-shannon/

On Tuesday, June 2, the City of San Angelo officially proclaimed June 1 - June 7, 2026 as Safe Kids Week. The proclamation reads, "Children are our most precious resource, and their safety is a top priority. Unintentional injuries are the leading cause of death and disability among children. Many of these injuries are preventable through education, awareness, and safe environments. By joining together and providing children and caregivers with vital safety information and resources, we can help prevent injuries. Safe Kids Week encourages partnerships to ensure children have safe, stable, and nurturing environments. Safe Kids Week is an opportunity for all those in San Angelo to come together for the cause of preventing childhood injury and death. Safe Kids San Angelo works every day to help parents and caregivers prevent unnecessary childhood injuries and fatalities; and unites firefighters, first responders, medical professionals, hospitals, pediatricians, police officers, parents and other committed citizens."

With community-wide partners, Safe Kids works to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. Since 1995, Safe Kids San Angelo has been dedicated to keeping our kids safe and we thank Mayor Thompson, the City of San Angelo, Texas, and our City Council for recognizing the importance of protecting our kids from unintentional injury. Thank you, San Angelo, for joining us in our commitment to keeping kids safe in every environment.

June 1-7 is National CPR and AED Awareness Week. Immediate CPR and AED use can double or even triple a person’s chance of survival.

During the 2025-2026 school year, Shannon Team Members along with San Angelo Fire Department, visited local schools to provide Hands Only CPR and AED training to approximately 350 students.

We would like to encourage everyone to learn these lifesaving skills that can make a difference!
