San Francisco Mental Health A Lived Experience

San Francisco Mental Health A Lived Experience A page for news, views, ideas, solutions and the sharing of personal stories about dealing with mental health challenges. All are welcome to share.

This page was founded by David Elliott Lewis, Ph.D. Co-Chair of the Mental Health Board of the City and County of San Francisco and also someone who is differently mentally enabled, someone who is a survivor of disabling mental health challenges. David is also a peer educator for the Mental Health Association of San Francisco (MHASF) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). He was recen

tly appointed by the San Francisco Mayor's Office to the Mayor's CARE Advisory Task Force, a group focused on helping those who have fallen between the cracks of our city's mental health care system. Because of the strong relationship between housing and mental health, David also divides his time on land use issues and housing rights. He serves as a Tenant Advocate for the Central City SRO Collaborative and on the Board of Directors for the Community Housing Partnership. While anything and everything having to do with mental illness and mental health recovery is welcome here, this is a personal page. It is not affiliated with the city's Mental Health Board nor any non-profit or for profit organization. David is also a photographer and uses images as well as words to tell stories. Years ago, the page's founder, David, discovered healing though the process of telling his story to others. While he will continue to share parts of this story on this page, he will also encourage others to share their stories as well.

MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE Official Trailer (2025)

My Dead Friend Zoe is a dark comedy drama that follows the journey of Merit, a U.S. Army Afghanistan veteran who is at odds with her family thanks to the presence of Zoe, her dead best friend from the Army. Despite the persistence of her VA group counselor, the tough love of her mother and the levity of an unexpected love interest, Merit's cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe keeps the duo insulated from the world. That is until Merit's estranged grandfather—holed up at the family's ancestral lake house—begins to lose his way and is in need of the one thing he refuses…help. At its core, this is about a complicated friendship, a divided family and the complex ways in which we process grief.

First movie trailer for My Dead Friend Zoe starring Morgan Freeman, Ed Harris.
