DEXA Scans-

More Physicians, Experts Now Recommending DEXA Scans At Menopause
The New York Times (9/9, Friedman) reports that “menopause influencers and medical organizations alike” in recent years have pushed “for women in midlife to build strong bones,” with the American Medical Association recommending “that women get their first DEXA scan – a low-dose X-ray that is the gold standard test for determining bone density – at 65 or older, unless they have a risk factor for osteoporosis.” However, an increasing number of physicians “and bone health experts now recommend earlier scans. They argue that if women wait until 65, they may miss a critical window to prevent osteoporosis.” The Times says, “Most women’s health advocates who push for earlier DEXA scans agree that the ideal time for women to learn their bone density is at menopause, when they face the choice of whether to start hormone therapy.”

TAMIFLU-
As fall and winter are approaching, so is flu season. I'll attach an article that I wrote about how to deal with the flu on my sub stack.

Interestingly enough the New England Journal and several other sources have come out with an article about Tamiflu. Over the past year I've had many patients who have requested Tamiflu. I've never seen that it worked and in fact it seemed that it was sometimes harmful. I was able to convince some of these folks to try a more natural remedy but I'm remembering one male patient who got very irritated and was verbally abusive and somewhat nasty because I hesitated in prescribing Tamiflu. He did not want to hear what I had to say about it. He just knew that he wanted it.

It's because of this season coming up and typically a lot of people are calling and asking for it. I thought it was good to finally let people know that, after 20 years, studies have finally been done. It is heartbreaking. https://voices.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/VOICESpost2600044?query=voices_ps&cid=DM2462081_&bid=-644165684
