Meet Jessie Martinez, Our Featured Patient Of The Week, And Our Newest Employee!!!

Jessie comes to us with a 15 year medical background. She also served as the office manager for a wonderful doctor in Orange County who recently retired. Jessie has also been one of our patients for over 10 years and has referred countless family members and friends to our office.

It was an absolutely smooth transition for Jessie to join our staff. She is the mother of two wonderful boys, and recently became a grandmother! Jessie is also fluent in Spanish, which helps many of our patients who need translation when they visit our office.

We are so happy to have you join our staff Jessie, and hope that this new experience in helping thousands of our patients see clearly again without eyeglasses will prove to be a successful and rewarding challenge for you. Welcome aboard...

Meet Tracy Hill, Our Featured Patient Of The Week, As We Celebrate Our 6th Decade Together:

It was 1972 when Tracy and I first met. I was an intern trainee in Los Angeles when her mother drove her in to get her first pair of contact lenses. With big beautiful eyes and a +10.00 Diopter correction, Tracy was totally "focused" and driven to get rid of her thick and heavy eyeglasses!

I still remember some of the people I fitted back then, almost 55 years ago: James Earl Jones, the actor who had just finished making the movie "The Great White Hope," Pat Riley of the Los Angeles Lakers, newscaster Hal Fishman of KTLA television, and then there was Tracy!

As the years went by, and I passed my state boards, I opened Lyon Contact Lens Center in Orange County in 1975 only to learn that Tracy, now married and living near Magic Mountain 69 miles away wanted to become one of my first patients.

Fast forward to yesterday, when Tracy came in for her yearly check up. Almost 55 years later, she still sees beautifully with her Micro-Thin 7th Generation Gas Permeable lenses. She amazes her friends with how well she can read her bible up close, and still see 20/20 at a distance with her contacts!

What do they all have in common? They share a combination of 6 cornea transplants, post-LASIK complications, scarred and disfigured corneas, rejection of previous contact lens attempts (including soft, hard, and scleral lenses), and the inability to see clearly through ordinary eyeglasses or soft lenses.

Meet Kevin Cortez from Texas, Ralph Hernandez from Anaheim, and Jerry Estrella from Santa Ana. All three gentlemen have been successfully fitted with our combination "Piggy Back Lens Technology."
A soft "bandage" lens is inserted over the scarred cornea to protect and cushion the eye, combined with a 7th-generation "Air Lens" worn over the soft lens to provide vision clarity.

All 3 gentlemen have now achieved "life changing clarity of vision" that allows them to do many things that had been taken away due to their previous vision history and challenges.

Meet Phil Stratford, Our Featured Patient Of The Week. Although Phil is a successful businessman here in California, he is also a champion "Formula One" racecar driver in Europe.

Every month, you will find him leaving California to fly across the Atlantic Ocean to Austria, Germany, France, Spain and England, reaching speeds over 220 miles per hour on a straightaway.

Many of his competitors are only 1/3 his age, but his Phil's fast reflexes, talent, skill and maturity gained from experience allow him to absolutely hold his own on the many racetracks found in Europe.

Oh, I almost forgot: when he's not racing cars 6,000 miles away, he wears a contact lens from my office that allows him to see perfectly up close for all of his vision needs when not racing.

Meet Brett Bush, Our Featured Patient Of The Week...

Brett sustained a gunshot wound to his left eye and is blind due to a work-related injury almost 15 years ago.

In Brett's own words, God had His hand on him and has allowed Brett to have better than 20/20 vision in his remaining right eye.
This enables him to see perfectly to read his Bible, teach, coach, drive, raise his family, and do all the things that we all take for granted!

Brett requires a +10.50 Diopter "Air-Lens" design in his right eye. With this lens, Brett can see clearly in both distance and near zones—something ordinary soft lenses or eyeglasses cannot achieve.

Brett, you are an inspiration to all of us with your wonderful smile, positive attitude, and Godly wisdom and lifestyle. Here at the Lyon Contact Lens Center, we could never do what we do without your love and support!

A Blast From The Past: Meet Beautiful Jennifer Lucero, We took this pic 5 years ago right in the middle of Covid-19. Neither rain, sleet, snow, nor Covid-19 stopped Jennifer from keeping her appointment with us on that day.

Jennifer has been a faithful patient at our office for over 22 years. Because Jennifer has 5 diopters of corneal astigmatism and needs to wear very heavy eyeglasses that rest on her nose, we developed a unique 5th Generation Toric Soft Lens to provide her with clear vision and total comfort.

Fast forward 22 years, and we still see our Jennifer yearly for her exams. Thank God we are no longer wearing masks, and as always our staff will be thankful to see Jennifer's beautiful smile and outgoing personality!

A Word Of Kindness And Thanks To You...

For so many of you who have given financially to "Our Fund" over the years to help our patients afford their contact lenses and services.

What you gave was much more than anything I expected, as you helped to serve others who were financially challenged and less fortunate.

We would receive blank envelopes... sometimes with $5, maybe a $10 or a $20 or more. Believe me, this adds up for people in need, such as those who have lost a job or a student who is barely "getting by."

When Covid-19 hit us all 5 years ago, those same funds helped many patients maintain a sense of normalcy with their vision needs, which they desperately wanted not to lose!

Instead of cancelling their appointments and going back to glasses, this fund—which we have offered to our patients for over 30 years, enabled patients to keep their appointments and continue wearing their contact lenses!

Most gratifying were some of those same patients who, when their finances improved two or three years later, returned to "pay it forward" by contributing into the same fund that helped them so that others less fortunate could be helped.

In closing, we are all together on this—one big, happy family of wonderful patients of all ages, backgrounds and the challenges that come with the territory. I thank all of you for your love, friendship, and kindness today and always!
