If we compare the physical body to a house, Qi can be understood as the electricity flowing through the wiring, while Light is like the illumination that fills the house. When there is sufficient electricity and it flows smoothly throughout the entire house, the house becomes illuminated. The light

What is the greatest strength in leadership? Is it domination and standing above all others?

In Chapter 61 of the Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu offers a different answer: true strength is found in humility and gentleness. By remaining receptive, quiet, and willing to take the lower place, we gain trust, create harmony, and lead without force.

A great nation is like the valley where all rivers flow— the meeting place of heaven and earth, the feminine heart of the world. The feminine overcomes the masculine through stillness. By remaining quiet and humble, it naturally takes the lower place. Therefore, when a great nation humbles its

Summer Solstice Wellness

The Summer Solstice marks the peak of yang energy and the longest day of the year. According to traditional Chinese wisdom, this is a time not to further stimulate yang, but to live in harmony with nature, nourish the heart, and protect the body’s yin and vital fluids.

1. Nourish the Heart and Calm the Mind

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer corresponds to the Heart element.

During this season, people may be more prone to:

* Restlessness
* Irritability
* Light or disturbed sleep
* Emotional fluctuations

Therefore, Summer Solstice wellness begins with cultivating inner calm:

* Be less hurried and more present.
* Let go of unnecessary conflicts.
* Maintain a peaceful and joyful state of mind.

Qigong, walking in the woods and quiet reflection are excellent practices for this season.

2. Align with Nature’s Rhythm

With daylight at its longest, it is natural to stay awake a little longer and rise earlier. However, adequate rest remains essential.

Suggestions:

* Aim to sleep before 11:00 p.m.
* Take a brief midday rest of 22 minutes.

The midday hours are associated with the Heart meridian, making a short noon rest especially beneficial for replenishing heart energy.

3. Eat Lightly and Replenish Fluids

As temperatures rise and perspiration increases, the body loses fluids more easily.

Beneficial seasonal foods include:

* Mung bean soup
* Lily bulb and lotus seed
* Winter melon
* Cucumber
* Lotus leaf tea
* Chrysanthemum tea

Try to reduce:

* Excessively spicy foods
* Heavy, greasy meals
* Overly cold drinks

While iced drinks may feel refreshing, too much cold can weaken digestive vitality.

4. Protect Yin While Respecting Yang

Although the Summer Solstice marks the height of yang energy, it also signals the subtle beginning of yin’s return.

An ancient saying reminds us:

At the Summer Solstice, yin begins to emerge.

For this reason, wellness practices gradually shift toward conserving and nourishing yin:

* Avoid excessive sun exposure.
* Avoid overexertion and excessive sweating.
* Allow time for rest and recovery.

The goal is to keep energy flowing freely without unnecessary depletion.

Summer Solstice

The sun ascends to its northern peak,
Bathing the world in radiant light.
A gentle breeze drifts through the trees,
Moving in accord with nature’s way.

May you, on this longest day of the year,
Harvest abundance in all you do,
And still cherish life’s simple, quiet delights.

Modern medicine can measure blood through laboratory tests, but Qi cannot be directly detected by instruments such as “your Qi level is 75”. Yet when life comes to an end, blood may still remain in the body while the vital force has already dissipated. This illustrates an important principle of ...
