Were any of you involved in the picket line outside FWBMC? I heard the nurses in Ft Walton were protesting something at the HCA hospital. If you have any knowledge about this, please PM me. I would love to investigate this and have you on my podcast.

How would you feel if you went to Burger King and paid $20 more than the guy in front of you for the exact same meal?

This is what’s happening in medicine every day.
This is why drug prices are so outrageous.
The culprit? Insurance companies.

The large ones use their market share to force drug companies to give them the drug at ridiculous prices, sometimes even below cost. If your insurance is not one of the big plans, the drug companies hike up your cost to cover the discounts they give to the larger insurances.

I see it all the time. A good example is the new diabetic medication Mounjaro. For some, it’s $300/month. For some, it’s a $30 copay. For others, it’s not covered and can cost up to $1200/month. It’s all based on your insurance card.

IMO, drugs should be priced like any item you get in the supermarket- the price is the price. If pharmacies like Rx Express Pharmacy Of Navarre or Walgreens want to lower the price of a Zpak in order to compete, that’s different. That’s what supermarkets do. But the current system, instead of having pharmacies compete against pharmacies, prefers to pit patient against patient- you can control what pharmacy you shop at, but you can’t control your insurance plan.

Doesn’t it make more sense to have transparent pricing for drugs, leave the insurers out of price-fixing, and have the consumers decide which pharmacy gets their business?

As we talk about mental health and preventing su***de, how do we respond to these cries for help?

Did you know when 911 is activated for someone who’s depressed and having suicidal thoughts, when that person is taken to get assistance, they are HANDCUFFED and put in the back of a squad car?

If a teen is being picked on or feeling less than zero, how does this treatment make them feel better about themselves?

Should the legislature look at this protocol?

With May having been Mental Health Awareness Month, you would think Facebook would not block my post or my podcast about mental health. Oh well, this algorithm simply demonstrates what we are trying to overcome- the stigma of simply talking about mental health.

The topic of su***de is very relevant to our area, where we have a high veteran population. It is estimated that su***de claims the lives of up to 22 veterans a day.
If you have a moment, click the link in the comments and watch my latest podcast on this terrible epidemic. We start by watching videotape of a hockey legend who killed himself 3 days after being honored. I was honored to have as my guests a licensed mental health counselor from Fort Lauderdale as well as a young widow who lost her military husband to su***de. I think if you listen to Jessica’s story, there’s no way you would ever consider su***de.

It is my hope that this episode saves someone’s life. Please watch and share. Click the link in the comments.

You’ve got to go see this movie.
In theaters now.
Sophie’s grandmother, God rest her soul, gave me a book about Operation Tiger many years ago. What a full circle moment to see it dramatized in the opening scene of this movie.
Brendan Fraser was great as General Eisenhower!

The worst part of hosting a podcast is getting people to come forward and tell their stories.
I’ve never been one to avoid a hot topic, but people don’t want to hear me, they want to hear YOU! I’m looking for answers to the following:

- Are you a current or former TSA/airport worker willing to discuss airport security?
- Have you been the victim of an e-bike accident and willing to discuss regulations on e-bikes?
- Are you from Buffalo and know where I can get a beef on weck after midnight?

Message me or comment if you said yes to any of these!!!

I could not believe the news yesterday.
Look at the joyous picture below.

Hockey great Claude Lemieux, who had just been cheered on wildly by fans for “lighting the torch” in Game 3 Monday, died just 3 days later.

Of apparent su***de.

It’s a reminder that you never really know what a person is going through. You can be loved and celebrated and seemingly on top of the world, yet still feel empty inside. I’ve seen it way too many times in my medical career.

If you or someone you love is suffering from depression or having suicidal thoughts, please take the time to come to my office and see me. We gladly accept walk-ins, and I’ll happily make time to see you.
