You made it through rehab. You did the work. You're ready to move forward.

So why does everyday life still feel so hard?

It's one of the most common frustrations in early recovery, and one that doesn't get talked about enough.

In treatment, there's structure. You have a schedule, people to lean on, and support when things get difficult. Then you go home, and suddenly you're figuring out how to navigate a stressful Tuesday, an awkward social gathering, or a Friday night with nothing planned.

Even the ordinary stuff can feel unfamiliar.

So how long does it take to feel normal again?

There's no universal timeline. The first few weeks can feel unpredictable. Over the following months, new routines and coping skills may start to feel more natural. And with time, many people discover that they're not necessarily returning to their old normal. They're building something better suited to the life they want.

That's why at Pura Vida Recovery, we believe treatment should prepare you for more than sobriety. It should help you build the relationships, confidence, practical skills, and support system that make recovery sustainable in everyday life.

Because the goal isn't simply to get through treatment. It's to get back to living.

👉 Swipe through for a closer look at what life after rehab can actually feel like, and what helps along the way.

Recovery, leadership, and entrepreneurship have more in common than you might think.

Recently, Pura Vida Recovery's Co-Founder Alex Wignall took the stage in Dallas, Texas, to share his personal experience with addiction and how it helped shape his path as an entrepreneur and business leader.

Speaking to fellow entrepreneurs in the health and fitness industry, Alex discussed how his experiences led him into the substance use and behavioral health field, changed his perspective on health and wellness, and opened new opportunities to make a difference.

A central part of that conversation was Pura Vida Recovery and our approach to treating addiction through a full continuum of care, from detox and residential treatment to outpatient services and long-term recovery support.

We're proud to see conversations about addiction and recovery reaching audiences beyond the behavioral health industry. The more we bring these experiences into conversations about business, leadership, and wellness, the more opportunities we create to challenge stigma and expand access to care.

👏 Thank you, Alex, for sharing your story and representing Pura Vida Recovery!

October at Pura Vida is looking pretty spooktacular. 🎃🐐

We've got goats, new stickers, some seriously impressive pumpkin art, and a healthy amount of Halloween spirit around here.

And somewhere between the spooky crafts and everyday activities, there's real recovery work happening.

Because learning to manage stress doesn't always happen in a therapy session. Sometimes it happens when someone feels anxious and decides to get creative instead of falling back on an old coping mechanism. Or when they realize they can enjoy themselves, connect with other people, and have a genuinely good day without substances.

That's an important part of what we do at Pura Vida.

Our clinical team provides the structure, treatment, and support people need to address substance use disorders. And throughout that process, we're helping clients put what they're learning into practice in everyday life.

Serious about treatment. Big fans of having a little fun along the way. 👻

For years, fentanyl has been the name tied to the overdose crisis. But the street drug supply keeps changing, and newer additives can be just as dangerous while being far less familiar: veterinary sedatives like xylazine and medetomidine, ultra-potent nitazenes, and industrial chemicals. Most can't be seen, smelled, or tasted.

What to know:
•Narcan (naloxone) won't reverse xylazine or medetomidine, but fentanyl is often mixed in, so use it in any suspected overdose. Nitazenes may take more than one dose.
•Don't use alone, and make sure the people around you know how to use naloxone.
•Test strips only detect one substance each: a fentanyl strip tests for fentanyl, not xylazine.
•Withdrawal gets more complicated when additives are involved, which is why medically managed detox matters.

In an emergency, call 911.

There's a new face at Pura Vida! 💙

We're excited to introduce Mariya Nadberezhna, our new Director of Strategic Partnerships!

Mariya brings a wealth of experience across eating disorder treatment, primary mental health care, and substance use disorder treatment, along with a genuine passion for connecting people with the care and resources they need.

In her role, she'll be strengthening relationships with community providers, helping families navigate treatment options, and creating opportunities for collaboration across the behavioral health community.

What makes Mariya such a great addition to our team is her belief that better outcomes start with connection, not just for clients, but for the professionals and families supporting them.

As Mariya shared:

"There is a strong feeling of community, well-being, and belonging at Pura Vida, and that feeling echoes within the staff and clients alike."

We're thrilled to have her on the team and can't wait for our community to get to know her!

Recovery isn't a straight line. Even when things are going well, there will be days when you wake up off, stress piles up, or cravings show up out of nowhere. A bad day is a normal part of life, and a normal part of recovery.

Our new blog shares eight practical ways to get through them: name what you're feeling, reach out for support, go to a meeting, get back to basics (food, water, sleep), move your body, use the skills you learned in treatment, be gentle with yourself, and do something that brings you joy.

If bad days are getting more frequent or harder to manage, that's a sign to call your counselor or treatment team. If you or someone you know is in crisis or having suicidal thoughts, call or text 988 or go to the nearest emergency room.

Finishing residential treatment is a big milestone. It's also the start of a new phase, and a lot of the healing happens after you leave.

Going home means work, relationships, and everyday stress again, and the first few months can be the most vulnerable time. The right next step can make that transition feel manageable: partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, or standard outpatient care, sober living as a bridge, family support, and an aftercare plan built around you.

If you or someone you love is nearing discharge, we're happy to talk through what comes next.

Every October 10, the world pauses to talk about something a lot of us were taught to keep quiet. 💙

It's World Mental Health Day: a day to talk openly about mental health, check in on each other, and break down the stigma that keeps people from asking for help.

This year's theme is Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change. So today we're keeping our own words short and letting the people who've lived it do the talking. Swipe through to read them.

Here's what we see every day: mental health and substance use are tangled together for so many people. The anxiety, the heavy days, the weight of trying to cope alone. Healing starts when someone actually hears you.

💙 Drop a heart if you're checking in on someone today.
→ Know someone who needs to see this? Send it to them.
→ Struggling? We're here. Call (707) 879-8432.
→ In crisis? Call or text 988.

That first drink can feel like relief. Shoulders drop, thoughts slow down, the day fades.

But alcohol is a depressant, and as it leaves your body your nervous system can rebound to a more anxious place than where you started. Over time, anxiety between drinks can get worse, not better, and it can take more alcohol to feel calm.

If you need a drink to relax or fall asleep, feel shaky or tense when you don't drink, or have people close to you who are worried, you're not alone. Anxiety and drinking can be treated together.

One important note: if you drink heavily, don't stop suddenly on your own. Withdrawal can be dangerous, so talk with a medical professional first.
