Although Halotherapy seems to be a fairly new thing to many of us, it has been used in different forms since Ancient Greek times.
In 1843, Polish Doctor Feliks Boczkowski discovered that salt miners rarely suffered from respiratory problems or colds, fewer than the general population. As the workers were mining, tiny particles of the salt were dispersed into the air (Similar to the way our Halogenerator works to disperse microscopic particles into our Salt Room during a session). The mines also provided ideal conditions for the salt to be dispersed into, with the right air pressure, circulation, humidity, and temperature below the Earth’s surface (Which is why our Salt Room has its own furnace and is sized accordingly to our generator and timed for 45 minutes).
When we think of mining jobs, we normally think about how dangerous and bad they are for the health of the workers—but the salt miners were in great health and it was obvious to see the benefits the salt had on their skin.
In 1964, an underground Allergy Treatment Spa was created in a salt mine in Poland with the intention of helping people with respiratory issues and overall health. The idea quickly spread and in 1968, the first speleo-hospital was opened in a salt mine in Ukraine.
After realizing how helpful spending time in these salt mines was to the health of so many, but lacking the convenience of getting to them, the first Halotherapy device was created in 1985 in the former Soviet Union. After the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991, halo-technology became accessible to the rest of the world and expanded to Europe, Canada, Australia and finally, the United States.
We are so thankful to be able to provide this service to the Sauk Prairie community and surrounding areas! Schedule a session to take some Time For You while also improving your overall health in our Salt Room 💜
