More fighting.
More meltdowns.
More “I don’t want to go to school.”
More "Can I skip practice?"

If this sounds familiar lately… you’re not imagining it. The end of the school year is a lot for kids.

After months of early mornings, long days, academic pressure, social stress, and constantly shifting schedules, their capacity is just… lower.

What looks like defiance or attitude is often:
✔ Burnout
✔ Mental fatigue
✔ Disrupted routines
✔ Emotional overload

And they don’t always have the words to explain it—so it comes out in behavior.

This doesn’t mean you ignore expectations.
But it does mean there’s something underneath the behavior worth understanding.

In these moments, try to remember: connection over correction.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
Sometimes the most powerful thing we can offer… is validation.

Here are a few simple phrases that can make a big difference:

✨ “That sounds really hard.”
✨ “I’m glad you told me.”
✨ “It makes sense you’d feel that way.”
✨ “I’m here with you.”
✨ “You don’t have to figure this out alone.”
✨ “What do you need right now?”
✨ “I believe you.”
✨ “That would feel overwhelming for anyone.”
✨ “We can take this one step at a time.”

You don’t have to have the perfect response.
You just have to be present.

If your teen can’t get out of bed lately…
it might not be laziness.

If mornings have become a battle—multiple alarms, missed classes, frustration on both sides—you’re not alone.

This time of year is exhausting for teens.
Long days, pressure, social demands… it adds up.

What looks like “not trying” is often burnout.

Instead of asking, “Why won’t they just get up?”
try asking, “What might be draining them?”

A little more sleep.
A little less pressure.
A little more support.

Understanding what’s underneath the behavior can change how you respond—and that can make all the difference 💚

School’s out… but something still doesn’t add up.

If your child worked hard this year but still struggled, you’re not alone.

Sometimes the signs are subtle:
✔ Struggling despite strong effort
✔ Inconsistent performance
✔ Increasing anxiety around school
✔ Avoidance of certain subjects
✔ Frustration or low confidence

When something doesn’t quite make sense, psychoeducational testing can help uncover the why—from learning differences to attention or emotional factors.

Clarity changes everything. And having answers can make next year feel very different.

We currently have openings for psychoeducational evaluations. Learn more here: https://thinkingtreepsychology.com/evaluations

Not everyone has a “plan”… and that’s okay.
Graduation season brings a lot of pressure—but for many teens and young adults, the honest answer is:
“I’m not sure.”
How we respond matters.

What not to say:
🚫 “You need to figure this out.”
🚫 “Everyone else has a plan.”
🚫 “What are you going to do with your life?”

What helps instead:
✔ Stay curious, not critical
✔ Ask open-ended questions
✔ Normalize uncertainty
✔ Focus on small next steps

Pressure doesn’t create clarity—but support often does.
They don’t need all the answers right now.
They just need to know they’re not alone 💚

Maybe this school year… wasn’t the best.

There were struggles with homework, frustration, tears, or that feeling that something just wasn’t clicking—despite everyone trying their best.

If your family felt like you were just trying to make it through, you’re not alone.

Psychoeducational testing can help provide the answers behind those challenges—whether it’s learning differences, attention concerns, or emotional factors impacting school.

And here’s the good news:
Testing now means you don’t have to go into another school year guessing.

Summer gives you time to:
✔ Get clear answers
✔ Understand how your child learns best
✔ Put the right supports in place before school starts

You don’t have to do another year like this.

We have limited openings for summer evaluations. Learn more here: https://thinkingtreepsychology.com/evaluations
