Su***de Awareness
Know the signs, save a life. Spotting the warnings early can help someone choose tomorrow.
Warning signs:
- Emotional: mood swings, feelings of hopelessness, sadness, anxiety, depression, anger, loss of interest.
- Behavioral: withdrawal, giving away possessions, recklessness, poor sleep and eating patterns, and researching ways to take their life.
- Verbal Cues: “I am a burden,” “Everyone would be better off without me here,” “I wish I could go to sleep and not wake up”.
How to respond:
1. Point to a trusted adult/peer: reassure the person that they are not alone and help is available.
2. Stay calm and listen: create a safe and empathetic space where they feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.
3. Act on your instincts: if you sense immediate danger, remove any means of self-harm and seek emergency assistance.
If you, or someone you know needs immediate help: Call 988 (Su***de Hotline), or text HOME to 741-741. For non-emergency support, call Care Solace 24/7 at 888-515-0595.
