The Gentry Lecture is an annual event with a special presentation followed by a community reception. Distinguished speakers are selected by the Lectureship Committee from names proposed by its members and the Wake Robin community.

Last week, the Gentry Lectureship Committee welcomed Arn Chorn-Pond, Cambodian musician, human rights activist, and survivor of the Khmer Rouge regime. The event included a screening of ‘The Flute Player’, a documentary sharing Arn’s remarkable life story and his important work to preserve and restore traditional Cambodian music. We are grateful to Arn Chorn-Pond for sharing his powerful story and inspiring work with the Wake Robin community.

Last night, Wake Robin residents enjoyed their favorite crustacean, along with wonderful sides and tempting desserts for the annual LobsterFest dinner. Directors and staff were on hand to serve everyone with a smile (some with festive hats)—and what a feast it was! A grand total of 330 lobsters were served, making for one very happy (and very full!) community!
A huge thank you to the incredible Dining Services team for all the hard work that went into preparing, serving, and cleaning up after this special evening. Your dedication and care made the night a true success!

The Fall Semester of Inquire, Wake Robin’s Lifelong Learning Program, is underway! There is so much to offer this season—from trips to The Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, MA, and The Snowflake Bentley Museum in Jericho, VT, to book discussions, art workshops, sound bath meditation, and the ever-popular Flip the Script. With such a wide variety of programs, there’s truly something for every resident to discover, explore, and learn.

Yesterday, Wake Robin residents and staff enjoyed a wonderful Fall Garden Party featuring live music, lawn games, c***r donuts, ice cream, and beautiful fall weather.

The event was organized by the Wake Robin Residents Association who did an outstanding job bringing everyone together for an afternoon of fun, laughter, and community. A big thank you to everyone who helped make the celebration such a success!

CORE, Wake Robin’s employee wellness initiative, spent today rolling around a ‘Self Care Cart’. Staff members were encouraged to grab hot tea, chapstick, under eye masks, positive affirmation cards, stickers and even fidgets. Caring for the residents that live at Wake Robin is one of the best reasons to work here, but caring for ourselves and each other is just as important.

As students head back to school this week, they’re carrying more than just backpacks, they’re carrying the support of their community!

Partnered with the Shelburne Food Shelf, Wake Robin residents and staff came together to donate backpacks, notebooks, paper, crayons, and school snacks to help local students start the school year prepared and confident.

Wake Robin welcomes back our “summer contractors” for another season. These goats help to rid the Wake Robin campus of invasive plant species while preventing erosion caused by heavy lawn equipment on the loftier hillsides. Places too steep for mowers are no match for these sure-footed eating machines. Not only that, but their time here is also spent being admired by staff and residents who love to watch them work!

At Wake Robin, we take elections seriously! Although today is Primary Election Day in Vermont, over 200 of our Wake Robin residents already cast their ballots last week. A remote polling place was established in our Community Center with help from the Shelburne Town Clerk and resident volunteers. We were proud to see so many members of our community making their voices heard.
