Congratulations to Nick Fredette, who was presented with the Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award at this year’s Vermont Health Care Association (VHCA) Awards Banquet. Nick Fredette is an Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner who serves Wake Robin residents in our McKay Wellness Center that offers onsite primary care and wellness services.
We are members of the VHCA, which provides support with professional development and education opportunities as well as advocacy in public policy and service reimbursement to Vermont nursing homes, residential care homes, and assisted living facilities. At Wake Robin, we are so proud of the knowledge, skill, and excellence each staff member brings to their role and the services provided to support the safety, health, well-being, and quality of life of our residents. Congratulations, Nick!

Green Up Day is always a well-attended event at Wake Robin, and this year was no exception. Armed with trash bags and gloves, 40 volunteers worked along Wake Robin Drive and Bostwick Road collecting litter and loading full bags into trucks for disposal. We appreciate everyone who pitched in to help keep our community looking its best!

It’s the sweetest day of the year! The Annual Pancake Breakfast is a much loved tradition between residents and staff celebrating the end of the sugaring season. This year, the Wake Robin sugar house produced 80 gallons of maple syrup. Directors dish out pancakes, waffles, bacon and sausage, fruit, all with a delicious layer of the sweet stuff to finish it off.

Reuse, recycle, and repurpose everyday items to give them new life as something even more beautiful. Wake Robin’s resident library cat is decked out for Earth Month. The hat is a recycled burlap bag, paper flower cutouts, surrounded by repurposed wooden spools with cheerful flowers, leaves, and stems shaped from outdated calendars. In the hallway outside the art studio, resident work is displayed celebrating nature and the return of Spring. What a beautiful way to bring attention to Earth Month (and the talented residents who live at Wake Robin!)

Wake Robin’s chapter of SSAFE (Senior Stewards Acting for the Environment) has been organizing activities to celebrate Earth Month all throughout April. The “Repair Fair” was created in an effort to fix items that otherwise might be thrown away. Residents were encouraged to bring broken chairs, lamps, whatever has been sitting broken at home. Thankfully, there were plenty of fixers ready to help. What are you doing to celebrate Earth Month?

Yesterday was the March for Meals fashion show benefitting Age Well, Vermont’s largest Meals on Wheels provider. Wake Robin was one of the sponsors with members of the Wake Robin Board, President & CEO, Meagan Buckley, and Director of Marketing, Kim Anderson, attending. The Meals on Wheels program serves over 318,000 meals each year to older Vermonters, and we were happy to support their efforts.

Happy Long Term Care Administrators’ Week! To become a licensed home administrator, 1,000 hours of on-the-job training and two exams are required. Gretchen Roberge, who has worked at Wake Robin since 2019, passed both exams in January and is now the Assistant Administrator of our Linden Health Center. We’re also lucky to include our CEO, Meagan Buckley, and Heather Filonow, Director of Health & Resident Services, as two more Licensed Home Administrators. The amount of work and dedication that goes into this licensing is incredible. We appreciate all that they do this week and every week at Wake Robin!
