Big feelings start inside the body ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿง
Miss Gabby did an awesome interoception activity with one her kiddos where they first explored internal organs and learned about different body parts, then connected Scribble Spot emotions to where those feelings show up in the body by drawing lines and making visual connections.
This hands-on activity helped the child begin putting all the pieces together between body signals, emotions, and self-awareness in a meaningful and engaging way. Such a creative way to build emotional understanding and regulation skills! ๐Ÿ‘โœจ
Reminder: Registration is still open for our June 1st Virtual Seminar on Pediatric Toileting at 12:00 PM! Link in bio to sign up ๐Ÿ”—

At the Jersey Shore, Memorial Day weekend often feels like the unofficial start of summer. Beaches fill, boardwalks come alive, and families gather together. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

But today, we also pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy these moments of freedom with the people we love.

Their courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™

Wishing everyone a fun and safe Memorial Day weekend from all of us at Abilities in Action! ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒŠ

Did you know our bodies have an โ€œinside senseโ€? ๐Ÿ’›

Interoception helps children recognize body signals like hunger, thirst, tiredness, fast heartbeats, butterflies in their tummy, and even big emotions. These body clues play a HUGE role in emotional regulation, communication, attention, coping skills, and everyday routines.

Sometimes children cannot yet say:
โ€œIโ€™m overwhelmed.โ€

Instead, they may say:
โ€ข โ€œMy tummy hurtsโ€
โ€ข โ€œIโ€™m mad!โ€
โ€ข โ€œI donโ€™t know!โ€

Helping children notice and understand their body sensations can support self-awareness, emotional growth, emotional regulation, and communication skills over time โœจ

Simple ways to support interoceptive awareness at home:
๐Ÿ’ญ Ask โ€œHow does your body feel?โ€
๐Ÿ’จ Practice deep breathing
๐Ÿง˜ Take movement breaks
๐Ÿฅค Encourage hunger & thirst check-ins
โค๏ธ Label emotions together

Every child experiences body signals differently, and learning these skills takes patience, support, and practice.

If this sounds like something your child may be experiencing, our team is here to help ๐Ÿ’™ Call our office today to learn more about how occupational therapy can support your childโ€™s development.

Save this post for later and share with another parent or caregiver โœจ

May is flying by, and weโ€™ve loved celebrating Speech-Language-Hearing Month with our incredible SLP team at Abilities in Action ๐Ÿ’™

Speech therapy is so much more than helping children say words. Our SLPs support communication in many forms, including language development, articulation, AAC devices, feeding and swallowing difficulties, social communication, and so much more.

From first sounds to first conversations, every milestone matters. Watching our therapists share why they love being SLPs is such a great reminder of the heart, patience, creativity, and dedication they bring to each child and family they work with every day.

Swipe through to hear directly from the ladies about why they love being speech-language pathologists โœจ
