IFSP vs. IEP, Explained Simply

Is your child turning 3 soon? You may be hearing lots of new acronyms.

🏠 IFSP (Birth-3) supports your child and family, usually at home.

🏫 IEP (Preschool & Beyond) supports your child's educational needs, usually at school.

Different systems. Different rules. Planning ahead can make the transition smoother.

💡 Try this at home:

Start the conversation about transition around your child's second birthday, not their third. Ask your service coordinator what the timeline looks like in your county. Early questions can help prevent gaps in services.

Picky Eating vs. Problem Feeding

Most toddlers go through a picky phase. Sometimes "picky" is something more.

A picky eater has 30+ foods and tolerates new foods on the plate. ✅ Problem feeding looks different: under 20 foods, dropping foods without replacing them, gagging or crying at new foods, whole textures refused entirely.

🌟 Try this at home:

Take the pressure off. Encourage your child to “play” with their food and feed it to others. 🧸 Serve one safe food at every meal alongside what the family eats. No bribing, no "just one bite."

If the food list keeps shrinking, your child is losing weight, or you are concerned with choking, see your pediatrician and seek out help!

This past Saturday, September 12, 2026, the Achieve Beyond team had an incredible time at the Woodside Fair connecting with families, children, and community members throughout Queens.
