Last week, our directors Katie and Taylor brought some extra sweetness to Skybrooke as they celebrated National Banana Split Day with our residents and associates! Everyone enjoyed creating their own delicious banana splits, loaded with all of their favorite toppings! It was a fun afternoon filled with laughter, sweet treats, and time spent together.

A Block Party to Remember!
Last week’s Community Block Party was everything we hoped it would be! The rain held off just enough for us to gather together, enjoy some quality time with friends, meet new neighbors, and celebrate the wonderful community around us.
Residents enjoyed delicious food trucks, while the kids had a blast with lawn games and the HUGE slide! And although the weather meant the Hot Cat Jazz Band had to relocate, we were so happy to enjoy their wonderful music during dinner.

Our Mixer Monday took us on an African Safari adventure and our residents definitely dressed the part! From safari-inspired outfits to a festive drink poured by Gary, everyone was ready for some fun.
Carol challenged our minds with wonderful safari-themed trivia, but one of the best parts of the afternoon was hearing from residents who have actually traveled to Africa and experienced a safari firsthand! They shared incredible stories and memories while showing photos, sculptures, figurines, and other special treasures from their travels.

Watching the Dream Ride Experience roll down Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury was truly a moving experience for our residents.
We gathered together to cheer, wave, and show their support as hundreds of incredible vehicles made their way through town.
Dream Ride is about so much more than amazing cars and motorcycles. It’s about inclusion, friendship, community, and making dreams come true for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. https://youtu.be/uGC4xjVlKGg

We are thrilled to recognize the Hot Cat Jazz Band as our Entertainers of the Month!
The Hot Cats have become a favorite among our residents, who truly appreciate not only their incredible music, but also their talent, professionalism, and musicianship. Every time they perform at Skybrooke, they bring an energy that is contagious!
Their wide-ranging repertoire includes Swing, Dixieland, Big Band, ballads, and Classic Rock, featuring music from legendary artists such as George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, James Taylor, Van Morrison, and many more.
What makes the Hot Cat Jazz Band especially memorable is their ability to connect with their audience. They don’t simply perform for us—they invite our residents and associates to be part of the experience. Whether it’s tapping toes, singing along, sharing a laugh, or getting up to dance, they have a wonderful way of engaging everyone in the room.
We are grateful for the joy, laughter, and exceptional musicianship they share with our Skybrooke community. Thank you, Hot Cat Jazz Band, for always bringing your very best and making every performance something to look forward to!

A Delicious Day at Saybrook Fish House!
Our residents had a wonderful time heading out for lunch at the Saybrook Fish House in Canton! From delicious lobster rolls to a decadent slice of chocolate cake for dessert, there were plenty of happy faces and full bellies.
Good food, great company, and lots of laughter made for a fantastic outing. And the best part? We’re already planning another trip soon!

A HUGE thank-you to the many wonderful people who continue to share their time, knowledge, talents, and friendship with our Skybrooke community over the last month!
A special thank-you to: Christine Rinquette from Companions & Homemakers, who joined us for a fun morning of making friendship bracelets and creating new memories together.
Detective Kevin Marano of the Simsbury Police Department, who gave our residents an important and informative presentation about fraud and scams, what to watch for, and what to do if they believe they are being targeted.
Dr. Stefanie Toise, who reminded us that laughter really can be good medicine with her wonderful presentation on the benefits of laughter and joy.
Lilian Ciesco from The Key Senior Home Care, who shared valuable information and ideas to help our residents make small daily choices that can support lifelong well-being.
We are so grateful to everyone who takes the time to come through our doors and share a little bit of themselves with us.
