Staff Spotlight: Meet Brooke, RN! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Brooke, RN, to the Bethink team! Brooke is starting with us today, and we’re so happy to have her joining our mental health care team.

For Brooke, one of the most rewarding parts of working in mental health is building enough trust that clients feel safe opening up, speaking freely about how they are truly feeling, and beginning the process of healing. She believes that seeking psychiatric care is a sign of strength, not weakness, and that care should be individualized and adapted to each person’s unique needs.

Creating that sense of safety starts from the very first meeting. Brooke focuses on being present, using supportive body language, respecting each client’s needs, asking thoughtful questions, and providing supportive responses. And one simple strategy she thinks everyone can benefit from? Deep breathing!

Outside of work, Brooke enjoys starting her mornings before her children wake up, getting a few things done around the house, and reading her devotional. If she could instantly pick up a new hobby, she’d choose sewing! Her advice to her younger self is to always be kind and willing to work hard for what you want.

Please join us in giving Brooke, RN, a warm welcome to Bethink! 💛 We’re excited to have her as part of our team.

August is recognized as National Health Awareness Month, making it a great time to remember that physical and mental health are deeply connected.

Our sleep, nutrition, physical activity, hydration, and overall medical health can significantly affect our mood, energy, concentration, and ability to manage stress. Likewise, mental health concerns can influence sleep, appetite, motivation, and the ability to care for our physical needs.

Supporting your well-being does not require changing everything at once. Small, consistent steps, such as taking a short walk, maintaining a regular sleep schedule, eating nourishing meals, attending routine medical appointments, or reaching out for emotional support, can make a meaningful difference.

Taking care of your body is part of taking care of your mind. This month, consider one small step you can take to support your overall health.

🎒 Back-to-School Mental Health Check-In

As the new school year approaches, some nervousness and resistance are completely normal. However, changes that are intense, persistent, or interfere with daily life may indicate that your child needs additional support.

Emotional and behavioral changes to watch for include:

• Increased worry, irritability, tearfulness, or emotional outbursts
• Frequent headaches, stomachaches, or other physical complaints
• Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or returning to a school-night routine
• Changes in appetite or energy
• Withdrawing from family, friends, or activities they usually enjoy
• Increased arguing, defiance, aggression, or clinginess
• Repeatedly asking for reassurance about school
• Strong fears about separating from caregivers, getting lost, being judged, or making mistakes
• Difficulty focusing, following directions, organizing belongings, or completing everyday tasks
• Negative statements such as “I’m not good at anything” or “Nobody likes me”
• Refusing to discuss school or becoming distressed when school is mentioned

One behavior by itself does not necessarily indicate a mental health concern. Pay attention to patterns, how long the changes last, and whether they interfere with your child’s sleep, relationships, routines, or ability to attend school.

Starting conversations early can help. Try asking, “What part of going back to school feels the hardest right now?” Then listen without immediately trying to solve the problem.

If your child’s anxiety, mood, attention, or behavior is making the transition difficult, the therapists, psychological providers, and medication-management providers at Bethink are available to help your family prepare for a healthier start to the school year. 💙

Did you know that seasonal affective disorder (SAD) doesn't only occur during the winter?

While many people associate SAD with shorter days and colder weather, a smaller percentage of individuals experience symptoms during the spring and summer months. This is known as summer-pattern seasonal affective disorder.

Summer-pattern SAD is less common than winter-pattern SAD but can significantly affect daily functioning. Symptoms may include:
• Persistent sadness or low mood
• Increased anxiety or agitation
• Difficulty sleeping (insomnia)
• Reduced appetite and unintentional weight loss
• Irritability
• Difficulty concentrating
• Loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities

It's important to remember that struggling during the summer is not simply a matter of "not enjoying the sunshine." Depression can occur during any season, and symptoms are real, treatable, and deserving of support.

If you notice changes in your mood that occur around the same time each year and interfere with your daily life, consider speaking with a licensed mental health professional or your healthcare provider. Effective treatments—including therapy, lifestyle interventions, and, when appropriate, medication—can help. At Bethink, our team offers both counseling services and psychiatric medication management, allowing us to provide comprehensive, individualized care for a wide range of mental health needs.

Mental health doesn't follow the calendar—and neither should compassion.

✨ Team Spotlight: Meet Jamie Knowlton! ✨

As Bethink's Business Manager, Jamie is often one of the first people helping clients begin their journey with us. Whether she's answering questions, coordinating care, or helping families navigate the next steps, Jamie is dedicated to making the process as smooth and welcoming as possible. She also provides invaluable support to each of our providers behind the scenes, helping keep our clinic running smoothly every day. We are incredibly thankful for all that she does for our team.

💙 What does Jamie find most rewarding?
"Helping new clients get answers to their mental health questions and struggles they may have been dealing with for some time."

Outside of work, Jamie once dreamed of becoming an artist, never starts her day without her morning coffee, and says she'd tell her younger self to "take harder, more challenging classes in school."

This year, one of Jamie's personal goals is to spend more quality time with her family and a little less time behind her desk—a reminder that caring for ourselves is just as important as caring for others.

Thank you, Jamie, for being the heart behind so much of what happens at Bethink. Your dedication to our clients and your unwavering support of our providers make a difference every single day. We are so grateful to have you on our team! 💚

🌟 Team Spotlight: Meet Beth Criss 🌟

If you've ever called Bethink, chances are Beth was one of the first friendly voices you heard.

Beth keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes—answering phones, coordinating schedules, and helping clients and clinicians stay connected. While her job involves a lot of organization, what she values most is something much simpler: making someone's day a little brighter.

"If someone's having a rough time, I get the opportunity to hopefully cheer them up."

Beth believes that everyone goes through difficult seasons and that asking for help is a sign of strength. She loves being part of a team that offers a variety of services because every person's journey is different, and having the right support can make all the difference.

When welcoming someone to Bethink for the first time, Beth keeps it simple: a smile, a friendly conversation, and a reminder that they're in a place where they are genuinely cared for.

💙 The advice she'd give her younger self: "Forgive yourself the way you forgive others."

Beth's kindness, compassion, and genuine care set the tone for every client who walks through our doors. We're incredibly grateful for the warmth and positivity she brings to Bethink each and every day.

Meet Brooke Vollmer, MA, tLMHC 🎉

Brooke is a compassionate Mental Health Counselor who works with children, adolescents, and adults navigating challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and life stressors. Her approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, and the belief that meaningful growth begins by meeting people exactly where they are.

Brooke is passionate about creating a safe, judgment-free space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. She incorporates evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and play therapy, while tailoring treatment to each individual's unique needs and experiences. As Brooke shares, "Being a safe space for someone is important to me. It is surprising how much just listening to someone impacts their journey."

When asked what guides her work, Brooke shared a quote that reflects her therapeutic philosophy:

"Being a successful therapist is not doing something for the client, but being someone for the client."

We’re proud to have Brooke as part of the Bethink team. Her commitment to creating a safe, supportive environment helps clients feel heard, valued, and empowered every day. 💙

If she sounds like the right fit for you or your family, we'd love to connect. Contact Bethink to schedule an appointment.
