❤️ Sometimes the greatest gift we can give a family is peace of mind.

When someone you love begins needing more care, the decisions can feel overwhelming.

Where will they be safe? How will we afford it? Who can we trust? Are we making the right decisions?

At Compass Care, LLC, we understand that navigating aging, senior care, and family transitions is about so much more than finding a place to live.

It’s about listening. It’s about advocacy. It’s about protecting dignity, understanding financial options, coordinating care, and helping families navigate some of life’s most difficult decisions.

With more than 25 years of healthcare and senior living experience, I help families throughout Spokane, Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake, and surrounding communities find solutions that make sense for their loved ones and their circumstances.

💙 But don’t just take my word for it.

Hearing from the families I’ve had the privilege of helping reminds me why I started Compass Care.

My greatest hope is that families walk away feeling heard, supported, and confident that they don’t have to carry everything alone.

Because sometimes, the most important thing I can do is help you get back to being a daughter, son, spouse, or loved one again.

❤️ Even when the words fade, the need for love never does.

Watching someone you love reach the late stages of dementia can be heartbreaking. The conversations become fewer, familiar faces may no longer be recognized, and the person you have always known may seem further away.

But here’s something I want every family to remember:

Your loved one is still there. And your presence still matters. ❤️

A gentle touch. A familiar voice. A favorite song. Simply sitting beside them and holding their hand.

These small moments can bring comfort, even when words are no longer possible.

At Compass Care, we understand that dementia doesn’t just affect the person living with it. It affects the entire family. The decisions can be overwhelming, the emotions exhausting, and knowing what to do next isn’t always clear.

You don’t have to navigate those decisions alone.

We’re here to help families find the right care, advocate for their loved ones, and bring a little peace of mind during some of life’s most difficult moments.

💚 Because even when memories fade, dignity, comfort, and compassion should never fade.

Watching someone you love experience changes in their memory, movement, independence, or ability to do the things they once loved can be heartbreaking.

And for families, it can sometimes feel like every conversation is about managing the next symptom rather than talking about what may be coming next in medicine.

On Wednesday, October 14, I’m inviting my longtime friend Dr. Susan Ashley to join me for a special Compass Care Facebook Live conversation about an area of emerging neurological research: FGF-1 (fibroblast growth factor 1).

Dr. Ashley will help us understand:

🧠 What FGF-1 is and why researchers are interested in it
🧠 The concepts of neurogenesis and angiogenesis
🧠 Why FGF-1 is being investigated in neurological conditions
🧠 What she has observed in her own clinical experience
🧠 What “investigational” treatment actually means
🧠 Who may—or may not—be an appropriate candidate
🧠 Questions patients and families should ask when considering experimental or investigational treatments

Most importantly, this will be a conversation where families can ask questions.

At Compass Care, I spend a lot of time with families facing dementia, Parkinson’s and other conditions that can change nearly every aspect of daily life. I know how desperately families want good information—and how important it is to understand both the possibilities and the limitations of emerging treatments.

This conversation isn't about promising a cure. It's about learning, asking questions, and understanding what is being explored.

❤️ If someone you love is living with Parkinson’s, dementia, MS, or another neurological condition, I hope you'll join us.

Compass Care
Right care. Right time. Compassion every step of the way.

This program is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. FGF-1 is investigational for the uses discussed. Individual results cannot be predicted, and viewers should discuss medical decisions with their qualified healthcare providers.

What Does an End-of-Life Doula Actually Do? ❤️

Well… today did not go exactly according to plan. 😂 My guest had to cancel, Facebook Live and I had a disagreement, and eventually I decided: You know what? We’re just going to record this.

And I’m glad I did, because this is a conversation we need to have.

Most of us are comfortable talking about birth. We plan for it, prepare for it, ask questions and surround families with support.

But when it comes to the other end of life, we often don’t know what to say—or even where to begin.

As an End-of-Life Doula, I help individuals and families navigate that season with education, preparation, advocacy and compassionate support.

In this video, I talk about what an end-of-life doula does, how our role is different from—and can work alongside—hospice, what families can expect as someone approaches the end of life, and why having these conversations before a crisis can make such a difference.

You don’t have to be actively dying to start talking about death.

Sometimes the greatest gift we can give the people we love is making sure they know what we want before they’re forced to make those decisions for us.

Grab a cup of coffee—or maybe a glass of w**e 🍷—and join me for a conversation we don’t have often enough.

If you’re navigating aging, serious illness, hospice, senior living, or simply trying to prepare for the future, Compass Care is here to help you figure out the next right step.

❤️ Right care. Right time. Real support.

Sometimes the hardest part of talking with a parent about getting a little more help is remembering this:

They probably don’t see themselves the way you see them. ❤️

You may see Mom struggling with the stairs, forgetting medications, eating less, or having a harder time keeping up with the house.

But when she looks in the mirror, she may still see the woman who raised a family, managed a household, worked a career, traveled, danced, drove everywhere she wanted to go—and certainly didn’t need anyone telling her what to do. 😊

And really… don’t we all feel a little younger in our heads than the person staring back at us in the mirror?

That’s why conversations about senior living or getting additional help need to start with respect, not age.

Instead of, “Mom, you’re getting too old to live here,” try:

“Mom, I want to make sure you can keep doing the things you enjoy without having to work so hard at everything else.”

At Compass Care, we help families navigate these conversations and understand their options—whether that means finding a little more help at home, exploring assisted living or an adult family home, or simply figuring out what the next step should be.

You don’t have to make a decision today.

Sometimes the first step is simply starting the conversation.

25 years ago today, our country experienced a day we will never forget.

At Compass Care, our work brings us alongside seniors and families who carry a lifetime of memories—including memories of September 11, 2001.

Today isn’t about business. It’s about remembering.

We remember the 2,977 lives lost. We honor the first responders who ran toward danger when others were running away. We remember the families whose lives changed in an instant and the men and women who answered the call to serve in the years that followed.

And we remember how Americans cared for one another afterward.

Twenty-five years later, that spirit of compassion, service, and looking after our neighbors is still worth holding onto.

Today, we pause to remember.

🏡 **Thinking about senior living for someone you love? You don't have to navigate it alone.

Choosing assisted living, memory care, or an adult family home can be overwhelming—and knowing **what questions to ask is only the beginning.

What do the answers really mean?

Is the community truly equipped for your loved one's needs?

What happens when those needs change?

Are there costs or limitations you haven't been told about?

And how do you compare one option to another when every community seems to tell you something different?

❤️ **That's where Compass Care can help.

I help families navigate the senior living process—from understanding care needs and exploring options to asking the questions that families often don't know to ask.

My goal isn't simply to help you find an available room.

**It's to help you find the right care, in the right setting, for the person you love.

If you're beginning to think about senior living—or you're already touring communities and aren't sure what to do next—**call Compass Care before making this decision alone.

📞 Reach out to Compass Care to talk through your family's situation and learn how I can help.

And even if you don't need my services today, chances are you know someone who does.

👉 **Please save and share this post with friends and family.
👉 **Tell someone you know about Compass Care.

A recommendation from a trusted friend can reach a family at exactly the moment they need help.

Do You Have the Right Documents in Place?

None of us likes to think about a medical emergency, dementia diagnosis, or the unexpected—but having the right legal documents in place can make one of life's hardest moments much easier for the people you love.

Many families don't realize that a Will, Power of Attorney, and Health Care Directive (Living Will) all serve different purposes. Having one document doesn't necessarily mean you have everything you need.

Ask yourself:
✔️ Who could make financial decisions if you couldn't?
✔️ Who would speak with doctors on your behalf?
✔️ Have you documented your wishes for future medical care?
✔️ Is your estate plan up to date after major life changes?

Planning ahead isn't about expecting the worst—it's about giving your family clarity, reducing stress, and protecting your wishes.

At Compass Care, we don't prepare legal documents or provide legal advice, but we help families understand which documents to discuss with an estate planning attorney and why they matter as part of a comprehensive senior care plan.

If this information could help someone you love, please share this post. You never know who may need it today.
