So thankful for those who have come before me! Doing fat activism work is extremely challenging and hearing from women before me is so valuable.

Thanks to my friend, Toni, for sharing this title with me.

I’m just part of a long line of ancestors who survived famine, war, and disease.
There have always been fat people and there always will be. Thinking that we can be eradicated is ridiculous.

Thank you to Ancestral Medicine for reminding us all that “The Fat Body is a Sacred Heirloom” today at the webinar.

Did you know that your Apple Watch can detect falls and call Emergency services and your emergency contacts?
👉 Open the “Watch” app on your iphone

👉 Click My Watch at the bottom

Scroll down to Emergency SOS

👉 Turn on Crash Detection and Fall Detection.

I’ve had 3 patients that have been saved by their watch calling emergency services when they fell and did not get up afterwards.

This is one of the ways I help patients advocate for themselves as we are working on getting better balance and improving their pain.

Seeing my patient’s shoulders drop and relax when they walk into my clinic is so rewarding. Weight-neutral care is truly the best

If you want to learn how to do this work, check the link in my bio!

Are you having a conversation about weight-based procedures denials with your patients before you send them to orthopedics?
I try to warn patients about this so they are not caught off guard.
I do help patients advocate for themselves with these denials but it can be very difficult. But it is life changing when I can find a surgeon and/or hospital that have done the work to improve their skills with higher-weight people. It is possible!!!

If you know of surgeons or centers around the country that don’t have strict weight cut offs please DM me the name!!

Also Ragen Chastain write about this and has some amazing references to help with a denial.

Thank you Sophia with Fat Joy with Sophia Apostol for a very invigorating fat joy writing session today at Weight Stigma Awareness Week week!
These prompts were such an amazing way to finish the session.

How would you finish each one?

Incredible presentation by Dra. Mónica Peralta for Weight Stigma Awareness Week week! It is always so refreshing to hear from other clinicians on how we can improve the systemic treatment of higher weight people. Kindness is not enough, we must improve the system all the way to the top of the institutional level and give fat people a paid seat at the table.
