The first church service in a new tabernacle in Central Ethiopia was held the week after the building went up. The church, which had been meeting in a home for years, has now grown to over 100 people and is still growing.

The new tabernacle sits on a hill, visible from the main roads through town. People drive by, see it, and come to ask what it is. Some of those conversations go further.

The congregation is already expanding their space to support ministry to children and youth.

One worship structure with years of faithfulness behind it, and the story is still being written.

Pastor Tesfaye prayed for years, pushed through opposition, and believed for a permanent worship structure for his congregation in Central Ethiopia — all before a single wall went up.

Africa Tabernacles and our partners came alongside him at the end of that journey and helped make the building a reality. Now his church has a home, a growing congregation, and the space to support what the community needs.

When an Africa Tabernacles build team arrived in Central Ethiopia, at least 40 people showed up — church members, neighbors, children from the surrounding community. Some had been praying for this moment for nearly two decades. Others had never been inside a church.
But everyone wanted to help.

One woman from the community stood watching and said: "God sent people to build their church in order to grip our hearts and attention."

The community wasn't just watching a building go up. They were watching an answer to prayer take shape in real time. By the end of the day, several community members said they would start coming to the church.

Pastor Tesfaye visited government offices at least 75 times before he was finally allowed to purchase land for the church. Officials pushed back repeatedly. Some tried to pressure him to leave the city entirely.

For years, his congregation met in a home, and the wait wore on them. It was a long, discouraging road.

But he didn't quit. When he talks about how he made it through, he doesn't point to himself. He says, "God gave me the grace to persevere and overcome."

When Pastor Tesfaye saw his congregation's tabernacle for the first time he said there were no words to describe what he felt. He called it, "a taste of heaven on earth."

After 19 years of praying for a worship structure while meeting in a house and facing opposition from the community, Pastor Tesfaye wondered if the congregation would ever have a permanent place to worship. God faithfully answered his prayers.

Pastor Tesfaye was clear about one thing: he didn't get here on his own. God gave him the grace to keep going.

Pastor Tesfaye grew up in western Ethiopia in a family of born-again believers. But living openly in their faith wasn't safe where they were, so his family made a decision — they packed up and moved to a small town in the Oromia region of Central Ethiopia, believing God was calling them there to plant a church.

The day they arrived, they started praying for that church to become a reality.
They prayed for 19 years.

That's the foundation this church was built on — not a building program or a fundraising campaign, but nearly two decades of quiet, persistent faith.
