Africa Tabernacles

Africa Tabernacles Our vision is to see Africa transformed one community at a time through permanent worship structures that empower the local church.

For some churches in Africa, Sunday mornings look like this — kids gathered under a roof, worshiping freely in a space built to last. This is what a tabernacle makes possible: a safe, lasting place for the next generation to grow up knowing God.

Join us in praying for these growing congregations, and for those who are still praying for a permanent worship structure.

Two more tabernacles now stand in Zambia!

What were once congregations without a permanent place to worship now have buildings built to last — spaces where their communities can gather for generations. We're grateful for these partnerships and for every hand, local and international, that made them possible.

Since 2017, this congregation has met in a small wooden shack, meeting the needs of their community as best they could. They longed to reach their neighbors with the gospel but lacked the space to do it well.

Last month, in partnership with a US church that traveled to help with the build, that changed. A permanent tabernacle now stands in their place, giving this congregation room to grow and welcome their community in a way they couldn't before.

A man from Amun encountered Jesus at a tabernacle being built nearby — and something in him shifted. He couldn't keep it to himself. So he traveled back across Africa to his own village, carrying one message and nothing else: "I found Christ. I need to tell my village."

Because of his faith, an entire village came to know Christ. That's what a permanent worship structure makes possible — and what a healthy local church does long after it's built: it carries the gospel forward, one story at a time.

In Fria, Guinea a pastor held church in his home — the only space he had. Two women in his congregation had to hide their faith entirely, sneaking away just to worship.
When a tabernacle was built outside the city, everything changed. For the first time, they could gather openly, without fear.

For $28.33, you can provide one seat in permanent worship structure in Africa — a place where someone will hear the gospel, where families will gather in worship, and where people who once hid their faith can finally worship freely.

119 tabernacles built so far this year — each one a permanent structure for a local church to grow, disciple, and reach its community.

Behind every structure is a congregation and pastor that showed up, gave what they had, and refused to let a lack of space slow down what God was doing.

It all leads back to the same vision: a healthy church within walking distance of every African.

Tony and Kerri Ballard began serving with Assemblies of God World Missions in 2019, learning the work of Africa Tabernacles on the field. Their years in Zambia took them across the country building tabernacles alongside local churches, then into Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda to launch new workshops.

In May 2025, they stepped into their new role as directors. Since 1991, Africa Tabernacles has helped facilitate over 4,000 tabernacles in 40 countries, giving African churches a launching pad for planting, growth, and reaching the lost. The vision remains simple: a healthy church within walking distance of every African.

This congregation and their pastor finally have a permanent place to worship — and the excitement was visible from the moment the tabernacle went up.

One woman shared that she's so relieved — the walk to their previous location was difficult and even dangerous because of the terrain and flooding.

A permanent tabernacle doesn't just give a congregation shelter. It removes the barriers that kept people from gathering in the first place.
Because of your partnership with Africa Tabernacles, prayers like these are able to be answered.

A man with a Muslim faith background traveled to Fria, Guinea with a team to help build tabernacles. He wasn't a believer — but while he was there, he met a Guinean man who had once been a Muslim and had found Jesus. That man shared his story, and through that conversation, the American came to Christ.

God uses every opportunity to establish His church — and every tabernacle built is another place where those opportunities multiply, where the gospel takes root, and where lives are changed for generations.

Over the next two months, these foundations will be laid and ready for tabernacles — each one representing a local church that will soon have a permanent place to gather, worship, and grow.

Would you help complete the work? Every gift moves one of these congregations closer to the permanent worship structure they've been praying for.
