5 hills I’ll die on as a pelvic floor PT 👇

Your pelvic floor does not exist in isolation.

Clenching your pelvic floor all day ≠ having a strong pelvic floor. Your pelvic floor needs to know how to contract, relax, lengthen, and coordinate with the rest of your body.

A “perfect” birth does not guarantee an easy postpartum recovery and a difficult birth does not mean you’re broken. Every body and every recovery is different.

Kegels are not the answer to every pelvic floor problem. Sometimes the answer is learning to relax, breathe, move, coordinate, or address what’s happening elsewhere in the body.

And yes… pelvic floor PTs are really good at treating hip pain. 👀 The hips, pelvis, core, breathing, and pelvic floor are all connected, so sometimes treating the hip means looking beyond the hip.

Basically: your symptoms deserve more than a one-size-fits-all approach.

Bladder leakage is one of the most common concerns we hear from women during pregnancy and after childbirth. While it's common, it is not something you should have to accept as normal.

At Vital Physical Therapy, we take the time to identify the true cause of your symptoms instead of making assumptions or simply treating the surface issue. Bladder leakage can be influenced by many factors, including pelvic floor muscle function, breathing patterns, core strength, movement mechanics, and pressure management.

We understand how frustrating and limiting these symptoms can be. You deserve to know why your body is responding this way, and you deserve a clear, personalized plan to help you regain confidence and return to the activities you love without worrying about leakage.

Googling "Am I constipated?" You're not alone.

Constipation is incredibly common, and it can have a major impact on your pelvic floor health.

Signs your bowel habits may need attention:
• Spending a long time in the bathroom
• Pushing or straining to go
• Having a bowel movement less than every other day
• Feeling like you didn't fully empty
• Excessive wiping after a bowel movement
• Frequent bloating or abdominal pressure

These symptoms are frustrating and they can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction, leakage, pain, and pressure.

Your bowel movements are one of the best indicators of how your body is responding to stress, inflammation, hydration, nutrition, and hormones. Healthy bowels support a healthy pelvic floor.

It’s frustrating when a setback puts you right back at the starting line.

This is my third abdominal surgery, and each time it feels like I’m rebuilding from ground zero. Whether it’s a laparoscopic procedure or a cesarean birth, recovery often comes with bloating, pain during normal bowel movements, and a core that feels completely disconnected.

Healing isn’t instant. Your body needs time to clear inflammation, restore function, and regain strength.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can be a valuable part of that process by helping improve bowel function, mobilize scar tissue, reconnect and strengthen the core, and support a smoother recovery so you can get back to enjoying life.

Recovery may not be linear, but every small step forward counts.
